not on a smallie but , seen same sort of low mileage damage on carbon plates on a tuned 210 px , with that 1 it was i suspected he'd doubled up the springs in clutch cush drive so take-up on clutch release was very hard .tho on swapping to non-carbon plates he's getting much more mileage per clutch set ,so maybe its a feature of carbon plates being made sacrificial to save the baskets .H

About time for an update... Had a couple of small teething problems to sort out - pin on the gear change dropped out after a couple of 100 miles...obviously hadn't driven it in properly...duuh Then the wiring to the Cdi worked loose resulting in a nice misfire. Soldered up all the crimps and added some resin to make them vibration proof. Should have done that first time. Changed the clutch plates to cork and they seems to be working fine So its running very nicely and has some real go. Will zip up to 40-45 in third very strongly as you can see in this short vid of me popping round to drop of my old Mum's shopping....... Vespa V100 M1L engine

Sounds lovely. Re. tax disc, I have a 1971 and 1977 disc on my SS90 and Rally. It was mentioned in a classic car mag I was reading, a 'period' tax disc is now treated like a sticker, and as long as it is not offensive, it can be displayed.

thanks guys...its really nice to ride either in traffic (on may daily commute) or when there's abit of open road. Easily the nicest engine I've put together - I would say the kit and pipe are a nice combination.
And yeah those potholes at the lights are horrible! But the bitubo shocks make a huge difference - much better than the SIP ones I had before
I did a plug chop on the way home and the plug was just a shade too near grey rather than tan so dropped in a larger main jet today just to be safe...

Gear changes are easy with teflon lined outers, nicely shimmed gears and a nice new DRT cruciform...makes for a nice smooth but accurate action...
Henri - temp was about 6 or 7 degrees I would guess...will keep an eye on it once weather changes - thanks for the pointer

Should also have said the XL2 clutch makes a huge difference to a smooth change. Needs so little pressure it means your not gripping the left bar with a vice like grip

colder/denser air=more oxygen =leaner burn with same size jet .its not a massive shift an is often cancelled out by humidity rise .if engine was jetted in summer to just on the balance point between rich/lean,the sweet spot ,winter temp drops can be enough to move it the whisker towards lean/grey you found . just saying ,dont lose the main ya took out ,as soon as suns back it can go back in probably . Well its been a while since I finished the build and the engine is now working well as my daily commute - but its still eating clutch plates so I decided to change out the primarys and put a new one in. I will replace the cush on the old set and see what I find when I do that.
Fitted a new set of surflex 4 plate corks and a new clutch cable inner. The result is a nice clutch that doesn't drag or slip and I can operate it with one finger! Almost as easy as a cosa clutch on PX...

Just read my last post... famous last words. The clutch finally got to the point it was slipping too much to kickstart the engine so have pulled the engine out for a winter overhaul. Opened up the clutch and it’s no surprise it’s slipping..

Yep my plates go the same way, Currently using surflex plates and polini spring, i dont get the slip but the plate dogs get battered in about 1000 miles. davet let me play with his clutch lever on his quatrinni super fast 150, a 2 plate clutch half the springs fitted. Pollini i think. So easy and smooth this will be my next purchase. If im wrong im sure dave will post a link to the clutch he is using
