Hi all.
Just got my first scooter on the road. A 1978 primavera. Until now it's been stored in my dads garage but now it's on the road I want to bring it home.
I was hoping to store it in my house as many do but there is a strong smell of petrol. Just wondering if this is normal?
Also, any secure storage options for my garden? I've toyed with the idea of chaining it down but doesn't seem too safe.
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

shouldnt be smellin of petrol ,loose union or flooding carb , my daily hacks are chained to the wall in front garden an also chained together with wifes ,makes em harder to steal but not impossible , get a good cover an always use it , if they cant see it there less likely to rob it ,dont advertise a valuable scoot as they can be stolen to order or for breaking , if it could be a bit of modern chinky stuff under cover there less likely to try n rob it, an also tell ya neighbours that nobody else should be seen moving it,as ive heard of broadaylight robbery with guys with clip boards n overalls an a van ,neighbours watched n thought it was kosher recovery , best garden option is a shed or lean to , but still lock it down , all my scoots/bikes are always immobilised when in garage/shed , steering lock/chain to each other n ground an disc locks aswell , you cant make em un-stealable but want to make it as hard as poss,so thiefs will take a easier option or theres more chance of em being disturbed/caught if they do try , H

mine are in the garage, various disklocks and ground anchors. alarm on all bikes/scoots, alarm on the garage, 1 camera in the garage watching the bikes, 2 cameras watching the garage, plenty of P.I.R. flood lights, more cameras around the house.
YES I AM PARANOID !!!!!!
having one stolen was enough. a four or eight camera cctv can be installed for about £300-500 and will hold 6 weeks of video it can also be monitord by a smart phone with images saved on a pc or website. look at the systems that your local off-licence or sweet shop has for ideas.
i also have a dehumidifier in the garage (this stops the rust getting started) cost is about £1.50 per week but its cheaper than replacing rusty tools or rusty bikes/scoots.

a cheap ground anchor can be made by cutting some scaffold tube and welding the pieces together so as to form a "U" shaped tube. bury this in concreat in the ground pass a heavy stong chain through the scaff tube and use this to chain your bike/scoot or woman to. this may stop either of them going away too easily.

sounds like me above ,an i'm not paranoid ,i know there out to get me , over 30+ years have had 1 bike n 1 scoot nicked n never seen again an also a full set of tools in a workshop burglary, some rare an unreplaceable , NEVER AGAIN, council wont allow ground anchors or cameras so stuff is all chained together so no 1 scoot/bike can be carried out , makes workin on /movin stuff a pain , but lot less a pain than losing it to a toe-rag , whatever ya do its important to not get lazy n forget to lock up , even when nipping to shops or filling up with petrol, a opportunistic thief only needs a minute to twist off the steering lock n walk it round corner to hot-wire it , an there usually the type to ride to nearest field n rag-it til it breaks n burn it out , you wont want it back afterwards . an just in case ,its worth the extra 30-40 quid a year to get decent no-hassle insurance , swinton n such like are so cheap as they save money by not paying out on slightest excuse ,like there was a full moon or a R in the month ,hassle you can do with out whilst grieving your lose , an if ya have to sorn the scoot sum do "garage" policys , just theft n fire an fairly cheap , H
