So, I still have a slightly hot bike. No holed piston, but I'm not happy with the heat. I still really don't think there's an air leak. I think it's in the timing.
So I'm running a malossi kit that asks for 17 deg BTDC. With the vespatronic, I would need 24/25 deg BTDC and that's what my timing light was showing when I holed the first piston.
Yesterday, for shits and giggles, I retarded it a few degrees and she starts now with one kick and idles great, but still runs hot!
I've been trying to time her in the high rpm range, but my light jumps all over the place. Have any of you had issues with timing lights? From what I understand, some lights don't work on "wasted spark" ignitions? I'm wondering if I'm running double what my light is reading because of the wasted spark?

yes ... you need a very high end strobe to keep up at hi rpm with a vespatronic due to the wasted spark. I would try backing it off more and see what happens.

I finally just switched back to my old analog timing light and it worked just fine. What I did notice is that the vespatronic does not retard all the way back. It only retards about 4 or 5 degrees.
I just got back from today's events and she ran good the whole day with the exception of loosing a bit of power after a long ride...
