Hi everyone
I rebuilt my engine about 2 years ago, after some twat stole my ET3 and shredded the woodruff key on the crank shaft ( at least he didn't burn the scooter!)
This is what i did.
Replaced all seals, and bearings. Put in new clutch basket and primary (straight cut teeth) Maz full circle crank Malossi 135 cylinder kit and matched the ports. Dellorto 25mm with direct induction reed valve ( basically the malossi carb kit from sip) Leo vinci exhaust
I fitted the malossi kit before it got nicked, and just used the standard 19/19 del it came with, and with a bit of jetting, it ran like a blinder through all the revs, picked up really nice of the mark, and accelerated well up to top speed (about 80kph)
After the nicking, and getting my scooter back, i did the rebuild with the list above. (hungry for higher top speed for longer distance runs)
Being a total newcomer to 'tuning', I just threw it all together and thought it would be ace, but it was quite crap. I wished I had kept it with the original carb at the time.
What is the best way to get back to square one, and with the kit I have, get this scooter running good. I don't want monster horse power (well i do!!) but just want all the kit to work in harmony and get me running well right through the rev range.
Thinking of putting a koso carb on, dont know what size.
Suggestions and constructive critiscism very welcome
cheers all
pea

i reckon you could make what you have run nicely by changing the pipe... if i remember rightly the leovinici's rev, but don't really make much torque, i'd say thats your weak point... its quite a big carb with a pipe that makes not much bottom end (if any real power), so it probably bogs down badly, spluttering through low/mid range..... you need a proper pipe.. hammerzombie maybe a little mild porting, then set everything up imaculately, get the squish right, strobe the timing properly.. jet it properly... thats another thing those delortos can be a pig to set up, so you might have yet to get it jetted right? your engine is in a different league to your exhuast adspeed has recently got great results with this kit + a hammerzombie.. adspeed any advice?? o ;D

Now then peahead.......,
What Jets ya using at the mo, I reckon the Koso might be a back step. I like to keep things simple and Delortos are fine once set and all spares are readily available.
Whats changed since it go nicked mate, any damage to the barrel, did you run with reed before......

Hi adspeed,
Nah no damage to the barrel. I stripped the whole engine down and checked everything throughly. Luckily the woodruff key was mostly still in the slot, and there was some very fine metallic dust in the oil, I dont think it was ridden for very long, if at all because they only got down the road with it. I think they maybe tried to kickstart it in gear or something?
Didn't run reed before, just had the stock 19/19 on there and it ran lush. Why did i change it then??? I dont know!!!!! Lack of knowledge i guess!
I know the jetting is totally out, i did my best to get my head round the subject, I think it's the idle that is way off. I'm afraid, gormlessly, that i've totally forgotten what i have in the carb in terms of jets. The plug always comes out black as sin though!!
Trouble was, i didn't have much of a range of jets or needles at the time, so it was buy a couple, then try them, but still no joy!!
I'll strip the carb tomorrow and let you know the jet sizes!!
Can a reasonable amount of jetting be done in an engine stand or not, just to get in the right ballpark?
