I'd hazard a guess that Norrie maybe played around with the design slightly to suit his own and "works" motors and had a "standard" item others could use.
Maybe Tony could ask Norrie if this was the case? I'd imagine Dave Webster would've done similar as MSC were certainly hugely sucessful back in the day and I doubt it was entirely down to rider talent without trying to take anything away from their achievements.

Yes. I passed the design on to scooter-center and they still make it. Just to get that straight, because it is not explained correctly in Scootering Magazine (which I found strange considering the fact that at least one person there knows the story): The pipe I made is not a copy. I had a NK one to test and was not convinced that it works all that well on a roadscooter. Hence I changed the overall length, the diffusor and baffle angles. I did try to keep the original look as an homage to the original, even though I personally think the snail design is better suited to racing, and much less prone to getting damaged in a crash. I think the reason they were made of 0.8mm is that using thinn gauge steel saves a whopping 500g or so in weight, and it speeds up pipebuilding no end. Most pipebuilders much prefer it over the thicker stuff because it really takes about half the time to bend it. I think back in the days the ET3 barreled racers made 18BHP at the most (that's roughly what Terry Frankland's made according to him. I was in newport once around 92 or so with my roadgoing smally on a 1200 mile round trip, and we had mine on their dyno where it made just under 17, so we got talking about smally engines), the non standard barrels where quite definitely well under 25. Still given the right environment that pipe could well help to make a powerfull eninge. With a 19mm crank and a heavy flywheel it's only asking for trouble though, and you may have to invest in a gearbox to actually enjoy riding it. Since it appears to be in good nick (still round and at least no visible MAG welding crap around) I'd rather put it on the shelf than a scooter, or readvertise cleary stating what it is. It should fetch more than what you paid for it, and for roaduse there are pipes better suited to the engine you have, Charly. Just my two Eurocent, of course.

Dunky's bike was a 100cc short stroke like mine(grp1). At a guess they made around 12-14hp. I would say Terry's grp2 made 18 on the old software they would have been running on the dyno jet. I again can ask about this as I am friends with Ian. Tim Wilson (taffs also)was my main rival in gp1 and we used to beat the 125cc machines.. so I dunno how realistic the figures are and what motor made more?. I converted the grp1 barrel 43mm stroke to 51 in 1998 and it didnt make much more than 15. But it seemed to fly back then! I still have that grp3 barrel.
