Just bought a PK80 with a PX motor in it. Dunno why really but with a 180kit on it, it should be fun...But im told the lights dont work. Anything obvious i should be looking at with PX engine and PK loom It starts with the key ok. The guy said that before they put the regulator in most of the lights and horn worked but now no lights or indicators or horn with a regulator on it. Electrics not my strong point!!!

Leccy's are very poor with me too but is it a ES or non ES block you've got fitted?

its a non ES version, think its approx 1983/84. Just fired it up today and no lights/brake light/indicators or horn!! If the regulator is not earthed do you think that may have any issues ?

Try changing the horn / horn wiring - if that's shagged the whole kit an caboodle packs in.

lets give that a try. Are we talking the wiring from the switch to the horn or to the connector block?

AND the horn.

The reulator needs earthing.
Have they just pluged the regulator into the old wiring loom. i.e the blue from the stator to the reg or the yellow from the horn circuit to the regulator.

Not quite sure what they have done, but it looks like stator wires go straight to Coil . theres a green one that goes from the coil back into the loom, and the regulator has a yellow wire and a green/grey doubled up wire. I think they were in the wrong place so ive moved them and now the horn works but no lights. looks like a need to start from stator and start all over again... Back outside whilst the sun is shining !!!

from thew stator you should have green white red black and blue
Green red and white go to coil and an extra from loom should join the spare on the coil, from the ignition some PKs earthed back to the stator. green
The blue and the black are your earth black and live feed blue, normally the blue goes up to the horn and then back to the regulator as a yellow, then out of the reg grey/green to the lights the black from the stator goes to earth in the loom and earth on the regulator, sometimes you can go from the stator with the blue to the regulator then up to the lights but this means you run a regulated horn. and don't get the different tones when you rev it. i always run my blue to the reg first makes life so much easier just having the one live feed.

so I would need to extend the blue from the stator and add to regulator and the green/grey will send power to the lights/indicators etc?? So do i need to do anything with the yellow on the reg or the blue in the loom ? Would it matter what terminals the blue or green/grey are on the reg ? Cheers Rob

|Doesn't matter which terminal you use on the reg as long as its not the earth ;D The wires in the loom are spare if you by pass the the horn circuit (blue up yellow down) you could use the blue to power the horn if you want to, but will need to earth it maybe via the yellow, try and see if not you could now power the horn from the grey in the headset which is your regulated supply. Its not really that complicated........

Still having problems. Changed the regulator to another and after a bit of fiddling with wires got the headlamp and side light to work, but they seemed to kick in after revving it for a bit. Had a problem with back light. With a blown back light or no bulb then brake light works fine, but if you put a good back light bulb in the brake light comes on with touching the pedal but doesnt work or flicker with pedal. Now then it gets worse, headlamps just decided not to work anymore, just happened, but horn is a bit intermittent also? ??
