Hi all, got a lend of a hydraulic press of a mate as i would like to do a conrod kit replacement, first of all has anyone any tips as in what not to do also is the pin pushed from any side in particular and how many tonnes of pressure to push out the pin is a 10 tonne oress enough? cheers

you need to make a plate to fit in between the halves that clears the rod. Around 5 mm, maybe 6mm will go. A good crank will hopefully need 6tonne or more to prise it apart.. Mazz full circles are around this.. the rotary versions are looser around 4.5. The said plate needs to be supported and use a drift to press out the pin which comes out either side. Use loctite on re assemby if webs are not as good as hoped.. a really tight crank may do from an anti scuff paste to assemble.

thanx tony, is the plate between the halves nessecary? and if so do you have different plates for different cranks or does a 4/5 mm plate do with different spacers/washers do when needed? thanx,

i think plate is necessary. The plate is then supported on two external blocks. This way you only push one half off. Just use the thickest plate you can get in there mate.And cut a semi circular hole on one side so the plate clears the rod and there fore supports the web better.
