Contemplating doing a track or sprint bike for next year.....If I were to go down the track (BSSO) route which seems like much more fun can someone tell me which barrels are allowed?? ;D
For say class 3? As I understand it theres no welding allowed to the cases, I assume it will be rotary inlet as well........and full body work.....but which cylinders are allowed?
Is class 5 open spec then, upto 160cc........specials??

hi mate-currently homologated barrels in standards- malossi, polini, pinasco. There are really only two classes- standards(grp4) and specials(grp6) though the old group 1,2,3 are there for you to enter. I run in grp4 on a 135 malossi 90ss. If i was starting a new motor i'd look at other cylinders now available and contact the bsso re their legality. I'd like to get the rotary valved quattrini in as this looks like its got potential. If I can help in any way give me a email or pm and i'll do my best as this sport needs all the riders it can get.

HOMOLOGATED thats the word I was looking for!! Was hoping you'd catch this thread Tony....... I'm currently looking for a frame, have an engine just needs prepping and a barrel.....would be good to have an Ally Nic barrel having said that I give my Malossi some right stick!! I take it they will have to be rotary inlet for group 4 along with being full bodied?

yes-to be "standard" rotary inlet only. I dont think many people would complain what barrel you use cos remember in grp 4 we are racing 210cc lambrettas. And its a challenge to make the little vespa keep up.. Bodywork wise i would say braise a 5 mm mild steel rod in the channel that runs around the legshields and maybe the rear end in case of chassis damage. No welding allowed except to repair. Stroke has to be 43 or 51mm. Head can be anything really-center plug ok. right hand bubble can be cut to fit carb but strengthing will be needed here if you do. Throttle must self close and steering stops must work. Pk forks in older chassis ok. You can use a hyd disc but i dont bother-pk drum is superb with a few cheeky mods-good enough for stoppies! Won't quite stop like a disc but saves cutting ss90 handlebars which i will not do!

Good luck with your racing I am sprinting a PK next year but the rules in the class I will enter are self closing Throttle/kill switch/steering stops/on off sticker by petrol tap other than that anything goes I am going to run a seigiorni 'C' barrel kit and stripped but not cut PK50
any pics of your racer
