Shims to move the gear cluster out to enable more clearance for an xl2 clutch and to allow the use of a 4 plate clutch without the danger of the plates bottoming out on the basket. You should fit the same thickness shims to the gear cluster and the kickstart shaft generally speaking. All these motors come up slightly different so its up to you guys to check how much you need. Remember to fit a crankcase gasket on assembly when measuring up. Where does one get these shims, since the ebay seller is no more.

You should be able to get them at hardware or bearing suppliers. just go by the measurements.
10x16x0.1 10x16x0.5 15x22x0.1 15x22x0.5
All measurements are in metric.
I did a quick google search and they are out there.

Does anyone have any spares of the 15x22 shims? They are unavailable stateside from every metric supplier I've talked to.

Is this 'mod' only useful for xl2 clutch? What if using multi-spring standard clutch with xl2 cover?

You need to check when dry building the engine. Depending on what engine it is chances are it's got a longer layshaft (as in the later engines) anyway. You shouldn't need these shims there.

Is this 'mod' only useful for xl2 clutch? What if using multi-spring standard clutch with xl2 cover? I had to use shims to fit my falc clutch, I also had to remove the falc pattern basket and replace it with a piaggio unit and I had to swap out one of the steels for a thinner one to get it to work. It was a pain in the arse really but well worth it. It fookin lovely now. Well it was until I burnt it out
