I was there and I can confirm that is EXACTLY how it happened!
;D
You can hear the clutch giving up, which must have been absolutely gutting, BUT given that apart from Guy no one else catches you just goes to show HOW much faster than everyone else (apart from Charlie) you / the hornet is.
Got a question for you though, are you actually as close to other riders (when overtaking at the beginning) or is the camera exaggerating it?

Cheers Nelle... Yeah jim it is like that.. the camera is basically a standard lens more or less so the view is what you would see as a rider.. they do wide angle ones-these would make the bikes seem further away and they do telephoto ones...these compress the perspective and so things look closer together.. Remember that aircraft 'near miss' shot over london last summer... well the planes were actually at very different heights... the snap was taken by a photographer at west ham on a 400mm lens whereas a 50mm is what the eye sees..

I was just about to say I'm surprised there aren't more people bumping into each other - but then I remember mallory last year when you had someone else's tyre marks on the back of the frame

True enough Tony and I can see your point but I could fall off a roof tomorrow or you could get clobbered by some huge centerback although the company might pick up the Bill? Not sure how things work but you know what I'm getting at.
Oh, forgot to say I was scared shitless watching that. Massive respect to you and your huge Kahoonah's. ;D

ha cheers... I dunno about the big balls... I think looking at it now I need to sort it out tbh... anyway.. if I get hurt then its down to me.. if I dont work.. my company has to employ someone to cover me.. and so I do take this into account. It maybe different for you boss? I dunno.. I'm on a contract , 4 days min a week, so far (after 6 yrs) i've never let them down. If I go full time then I cant race at all.. thats how it is.

Can you not get insurance to cover any time off work?
Hank should be able to sort you out surely?

Plus - it's one thing "stepping it up" when you have a clear route from start to finish, and another when you're starting on the back row of the grid...

absolutely brilliant tony, i stood watching this race from the floodbank opposite the start grid.. for me the way you passed people around the outside of the big sweeping right hander was as impressive as the way you carved through the pack on your start.... who knows how your race may have gone if youd started from 3rd on the grid (at least your rightful placing)... hearing yours and john woodies SS`s roaring by on the back straight was awesome... when john passed a group 4 lammy on the back straight i was jumping up and down like a kid at a footy match.......... ;D ;D could not believe how calm you both were directly after the race. i think the look on my face showed how impressed i was.... on the must push harder theory.. if you can go for it mate, its very easy for us non racers to say that, but seeing the auto rider lying on the track after a warm up highside scared me... the air ambulance landing right behind me to take away the injured moto x lad (racing behind the race scooters) scared me more.. best of luck for a successful and safe 2010 season to you BOTH

thanks for your kind words coll.. i'm really pleased that all of you enjoyed it.. more and more of you are turning up and this is only good for us and the sport.. dont forget adam has a falc all built and ready to go , also gareth is coming out and ste will be back once i've built the bike. So how cool will it be with all them eh? Charlie is well on with sorting the clutch. Needs to be geared up a bit as it was geared for 91 but wa doing this a third of the way down the straight..And I want to go through all the geometry on the frame too to get the best out of it.. loads to do!

Great driving, Tony! Too bad to hear your clutch slipping that badly in the video. I wonder where this comes from, normally the falc clutch should hold up well. Do you clutch the engine out of tight corners?
