Thought I would post my other long running project on here. Hope you find it interesting. Bought this a couple of years back Its a lot more shabby than it looks in the picture Didn't realise the real differences between the Lui and a Vega to be honest and because it was so slow decided to up it from 50cc to 125cc before doing the frame. engine out strip flywheel holding tools are not easily available parts sourced barrel mod. Cut the skirting off a cento barrel before rebore to 125 because its too thin rebuild holding tool made from J range rim which is slightly bigger and just fits engine cowling modification to stop bottoming out of frame on engine mudguard shortened to clear inlet manifold might fit this nice little pipe ;D Anyways this is as far as i've got so far. Once I have the engine back in I intend to get it running and maybe off the sorn and mot'ed for a short while before I start on the bodywork and stuff

Snails, interesting looking project you got there! Never seen one in real life, but seen some modded versions on the internet. What year is it? Tricky to get parts?

Its a F Reg I think.
Obtaining parts is a pain in the backside as there a only a small amount of bits remade and some of these vary in quality so often your left with trying to find original parts which for certain items there are not a lot of them about. Headlight rims in good condition for Vegas sell for at around the £100 mark on ebay which as you can buy a fair condition Vega for around £700 is just madness.
If you have a lot of old scooterboy contacts it might not be that hard but I dont so I was restricted to Jem Booth, Scootopia, Scooter Restorations, Allsytles and ebay.

That belongs to czechmate who posts on here It's a shame cause Cezeta off this forum recently purged his shed off most of his vega/lui/starstream gear, and he had loads (loads and loads) of NOS stuff and starstream conversion shit. Think he had an electronic ignition Jem built for him too... Good looking project though pal, look forward to seeing it come together

I like it, so how do you go about a 125 for it, is it a kit or can you put a normal Lammy 125 Engine in it?!

I do believe the cylinders in these oddments are vertical, while its bigger brothers had horizontal cylinders, so the motor itself would be too long. Am I right in saying you could simply put Starstream internals in, though?

I don't know about the availability over there, but the starstream is pretty rare over here in the states. they didn't make very many of those, did they? I could be wrong...

Nah, I think Starstreams are quite rare everywhere, but I was just thinking along the lines of a J125's internals anyway... You know what I mean!

To my knowledge, they were except the exhausts and carbs, but I'm sure someone will put me right on this if I'm not!

Sorry for the lateness of my reply regarding how to do a 125 conversion. With mine, as its a 3 speed Lui I have used the internals from a J125 - well actually the barrel is a Cento one bored out to 125 but the other parts are J125. I belive that the Cento barrel has teh same exhaust port height as the Vega and so makes fitting a Vega exhaust easier and also the ports on the barrel are less likely to break your piston rings which I believe the J and/or starstream will do. Costs more though because of the rebore
If you wish to convert a Vega you would have to source the 4 speed starstream engine parts.
Alternatively you can with a bit of modification swap the whole engine for a J125 type or for the more crazy out there fit Vespa PX or Lambreatta Series 3 type.
As far as progress goes mostly I have been having to play around with the j125 engine cowling trying to get it to fit properly. Its been a right pain and is by no means a professional looking job that I have done. I didn't expect that to be so hard as thought it should fit easily. Oh well, at least I remembered to do this before I had it painted. For the time being i'm just going to rattle can it and then have it redone when I do the frame.

Started drilling out the rivets on the AF Flywheel so I can attach a Vega boss. Thats the first step on completing an electronic conversion. Need to do this round my friends house as he has a pillar drill. Been going through a few drill bits though. and had to give up when the ones I was using seemed to be unable to make an impression any more.

I forgot all about this topic. I did eventually get it on the road last year. Only took 8 years in all! But just to show I'm not a complete loss when it comes to scooters: Quite proud of it, although there are still a few bits to tidy up. Runs well so far - only another 700 miles to go in running it in!

Nice that. Always had a thing for the Luna's and Starstreams although not enough to ever own one. Presume you're running in for 1,000 miles going on what you said? Why would you do that, it was only ever 500 miles as far as I'm aware out of the factory.
