you have to take the motor apart again because you didn't double check everything.... 3 times... quick note: 54mm mazz cranks with 105mm rod needs more space in the crankcase than the 97mm...

What do you mean by more room in the crankcase?
I've got a 54mm mazz crank with a 105 rod on it, what sort of problems are you having?

I think it's to do with the eccentric pin being lower in the webs meaning the bigend of the 'rod will hit the cases unless there's material removed Jim. At least that's the way I read it.
Blurb lifted of SIP, clear as mud.
All 54 mm crankshafts are outfitted with a stabile connecting rod with mathematically precise partial polishing, the remarkably acceleration stable model "Silver Bearing" comes with a lower connecting rod bearing. Crank webs are outfitted with additional balance wells sealed with pertinax inlets to improve hot gas flow. Crankcase cover gaskets balance out stroke increase (51 mm -> 54 mm) and connecting rod length increase (97 mm -> 105 mm)!
CAUTION: for the MAZZUCHELLI 54 mm crankshaft, you'll need to mill crankcase housing and motor casing to fit!

Ah, my mistake 54mm is the long stroke, mine is only 51mm - panic over!

At least that's the way I read it. thats right. as you may remember i got a faulty crank from SIP. that was a 54mm/97mm rod item. it had plenty of clearance in the crankcase. i got the new one Friday, a 54mm/105 rod item, and apparently it has a fatter big-end. I assumed it was the same, but no... always double check everything twice....

Yeah, that's a right pain. You'll get there in the end though.

man I feel your pain. I had mine down to pieces and was in a hurry to get it back together got in all bolted up and back together and was installing it back into the body when i looked over and realized the bearing race that had replaced...had not gotten replaced and was left on the bench. that sucks about having to create more clearance. of course it'll be worth it though

i always forget the kickstart cog like the twat i am, then only notice when its all back together you and me both mate. one time in a hurry I actually put it in upside down. It's running now, but I still got loads of carb-fettling to do. It's nice to ride a popper scoot again tho, I had forgotten how nice and tight this scooter is. I had also forgotten that it's painfully LOUD.
