Gidday.
Thought I might as well start posting my primmy rebuild for people to see. Also because Im sure I will have a few questions along the way, which I hope you guys can help me out with.
Im based in Perth, Australia, and for some reason or other, there are very few smallies around. Was very lucky to meet a guy 'nick' (though this forum and a local club forum) who has a couple of smallies: v50 and a primmy in bits, which he was willing to part with.
So, as a Valentines day present for the mrs (and a chance for me to rebuild my first scoot) I bought it.
1968 Vespa Primavera – Stripped down completely
Below are some pics of when I bought it, with all parts displayed:
Over the past week, I have been reading over past technical posts, scooterhelp.com, smallframes.com,Haynes manual etc etc and have decided the best way to tackle the project is by dividing it into 3 sections (cheers for the advice Shaneo):
- Engine
- Frame/Bodywork
- Fork
I have begun with the engine and have categorized all parts, and checked all sub-assemblies (gearbox, crank, clutch) for replaceable parts. Below is a pic of the rotary pad, which looks OK to me, so have decided to stay with rotary induction.
Placed the order last night from SIP for the following (motor only):
- Polini 130 Cylinder Kit
- Mazzy Cut Crank
- Clutch Plates (reinforced)
- Bearings, Seals, Gasket
- Cruciform
- Condenser, Points
I already have the following parts:
- New Polini el’cheapo pipe
- New 19/19 Carb
- Polini High Flow Filter
I have decided not to purchase an upgear kit. Thought that the 4th gear ratio of the standard primmy would be OK? Any comments?
Plan for motor is to be a road tune: Matched ports, but otherwise untouched barrel and piston.
So while I wait for engine parts, I can begin the strip and rebuild of the front fork.
Will keep you posted (hope those pics work).
Cheers.
Craig
