looking good p.s. i love the petrol contamination look! it features heavily on my scoot...... i also discovered that the cheap paint i used has no resistance to pertrol , i.e. when jetting and spilling petrol everywhere, all my paint fell off....... oh well... all part of the 'unique' look i go for....

Is there any detrimental effect on rigidity when losing material in such a structural area, ie so close to the eng mount?

Nik (Worb225) is probably best placed to answer this. Personally I doubt you'd lose much rigidity but if you're worried about it then get some thick wire welded on the internal face of the opening.
