Evening forum :-)
So I've had my V90 a couple of months now and I've been out & about a lot on her now. Around the town the scooter is fine, but as soon as I venture a bit further out into the sticks and have to get onto bigger roads, you can really tell its a standard 90 ..
I didn't originally want to modify the engine as I do like the fact it is original (bar a new piston recently), buut, it does feel a little unsafe not being able to sit at 45/50 when I'm on a long stretch of road, and it really doesn't like hills.
I'm thinking about getting my local scooter mechanic to fit the Polini 130 kit to it, I'm not looking at shredding the thing, I just want to get more grunt out of it and an extra 10mph. Is the Polini the way to go, or or are there other more reliable options?
I am looking for reliability with the kit, not after thrashing the engine to its death.
Could really do with some opinions on what to do, a couple of people have said I may be better off taking out the original engine and trying to source another engine leaving the original, original?
Appreciate any help that can be given, Harry

Im a 130 iron barrel polini fan. Built quite a few, decent plug and play gains and some pretty cheeky performance available with additional modifications- all depends on what your comfortable tackling yourself....? As far as reliability goes - after a lengthy (or not) running in period - they are pretty bullet proof. Thing is as you've tired of the standard 90 now you'll probably tire of the plug and play 130 option too so worth bearing that in mind, fitting reed valve, opening up case ports creating a decent flow channel, maxing out inlet, nice 24mm carb and decent exhaust and it'll be a fun reliable ride. I'm sure others will be along with various other options- there are plenty to choose from.

+1 on the Polini 130. I set them up with a 19/19 carb, Polini banana exhaust and keep the 90/100 primary gears. Will out perform a P200. No need to shift down for most hills

No need to shift down for most hills 19.19 and banana exhaust is a safe bet 👍 boring but safe. With a little more work, bigger carb and a few extra £'s there's a lot more fun to be had from that cylinder, and you'll only be down shifting for mountains 😉

Cheers Matt and JB.
I'm going to see if my local scooter mechanic can do the work for me as I am not confident in toying with the engine.
Me and my partner often take ride outs on the scooter and at the moment I think it'd be quicker if she gets off the scoot at the bottom of the hill and meets me at the top haha!

a cast iron 130 should do about 60 ish and 50 ish two up it will not have the acceleration of some of the more expensive kits but they do have good reliability and reasonable fuel economy the maintenance is minimal
so there is a lot to be said for keeping it simple
a lighter flywheel is the one extra i would factor in

im moving to colchester on monday, id be happy to do it for you, i would use the evo polini rather than the iron one, less running in for one thing and an alluminium nicasil barrel which is better all round, you will need a 125 head cowl and long barrel studs, but just bolting it on isnt really a good plan one question, what year is yr v90 ? you will need some other stuff too, id recommend a stronger clutch too as with the lower primaries the clutch will most likely slip quite a bit, a 19/19 carb at least, 125 primaries if possible, a 4 speed box would also be an advantage new seals etc, and at least check everything for wear, i could also tune the 90 barrel if you so wish or try to find a pk80/100 barrel and give that a fettle im happy to talk things through with you and give you the pros and cons of what you want to do

Polini 130, banana and a 19/19 will work just fine with the stock clutch.

Nice fat torque band so it works just fine with a 3 speed as well. Four speed is nice but keep the 90/100 primaries.
