Hi all, I’m new to this group but had a few um, lardies I think you call them! I’ll keep that quiet tho. I’ve just picked up a bit of a project which is arriving on pallet hopefully today, a smallie with no engine and the bloke who sold it says he couldn’t find the frame number. I can see from pics it’s an older small frame as no tool box on side panel but other than that I’m not sure what it is! Any help with identification please help 😳 My name is Steve and I’m based in Frome in Somerset. Keen to sort the frame first and get her looking better, then hopefully something like a polini 130 engine build but may need advice on that…
I’m trying to figure out how to add pics tho, won’t let me paste… 🤔
Thanks all
P

the frame number is in two places.
1st on a vin plate fixed just by the hole where the fuel tap an choke lever go 2nd on the edge of the frame under the engine door just above where the spark plug would be the second one is often a bit faint
tool box on the side panel is common on the primavera, t3 and et3 models

Welcome mate. No toolbox might be a standard V50 or V90. If it has been painted it may need scraping back in the lip of the side door to find the frame number. Often very faint, mine is barely readable. This forum is a bit elderly so pasting images etc doesn't work. Best bet for uploading images is imgbb.com/, once uploaded you copy the "BB Linked" code it gives you into here and it should work. Madmax on here is based in Bath (I think... he used to be!) if you want someone to take a look.

Madmax on here is based in Bath (I think... he used to be!) if you want someone to take a look. Still in Bath James Welcome Steve. Jimmy D picture above is where the numbers are situated from the factory, some also have a vin plate below the petrol tap as already mentioned. If the numbers are not visible, remove the paint without going to heavy at it and take a rubbing with a piece of paper and a pencil. That's what I did with my primmy as the numbers under the paint were hard to read.

Thanks so much guys, I’ve looked at the plate at the top of the side panel with the door but it’s ultra smooth so don’t imagine it’ll reveal much at all from sanding. Nothing below fuel tap. There is also a bit cut out which is a bit ominous 😳 I’ll sort I’m sure. Yea it’s a pain not being able to upload pics, I’ll figure that out too, I’ll follow your advice mate. One thing on this scoot that’s a little different is that the whole frame has been powder coated, and I’m currently using a bit of google power to figure out how to fix a few crack lines and the right leg shield has been pushed in back in a local part. Other that that, she presents very well smooth and shiny! Got an idea for an engine vid a mates got a good condition polini 130 with a pm40 exhaust and a 26mm carb, also a competition clutch. I’ll just need a good complete engine to start with and then prise those bits off my mate 😉 any ideas where a decent engine can be found, I’m not looking mad arse, just good speed touring.
Cheers guys
Steve

Have a look at the photo of one I did and you can see it near the spark plug and green and yellow tape. As for not finding the frame number that would be down to the powder coating. The one in the photo is powder coated and I had a hell of a job removing the coating to reveal the number without destroying it. It's there if you dig deep enough. Someone will advise what's the best way to remove the horrible stuff.

Hey Jimmy D, that’s a beauty of a scoot you have there and 14 bhp sounds great, I just want a good all round tour speed and hopefully reliability. I’ll chat with my mate and see what I can sort, don’t think it’ll be cheap tho! With the cut out frame part inside the side panel gugne I think my situation is a bit more severe, a chunk behind that natural cut away has gone so I actually think someone’s chopped the frame number off 😳 I’ve got some ideas of how to sort. Please see pic 😉 ibb.co/vLbBRqp

Wow, yes... someone has very purposefully removed the frame number. That's not good news at all and suggests it may have been written off at some point.
Do you have the V5 or know the registration?
Hope you can get it on the road as the frame looks in superb condition otherwise.

gugne nice little scoot mate 67 Nuova. It was my first full resto and it gave me so many headaches that I was glad to see the back of it when I'd finished.

I do have a V5C and it’s now registered to me, came back last week. Registered as a 50 special 1978. The bloke I bought it off said it had been used as a piece of decor in a restaurant, the restaurant owner had it powder coated. So powder coating won’t allow you to hide filler so the bodywork is really straight, can’t find any damage anywhere except the right leg shield pushed back slightly. Measured diagonally across various points of frame and everything looks tip top!
I’ll get a plate stamped up that matches the vin I’ve got and rivet that to the frame under the fuel tap 👍
I’ll just need to find an engine to work on, I fancy doing a polini 130 set up, just struggling to find the engine to get started on at the mo seems there’s not many (any!) about… I’ll find one
That’s a damn shame to let that scoot go, especially after the effort you obviously put into her!

I’ve only searched online so far for an engine, I’ll start collecting bits to kit up a tad then maybe reach out on this site.

I do have a V5C and it’s now registered to me Phew! Good to hear. Without that bit of paper it would have only have been good as restaurant decor... I wonder why the number was cut out.
