Any tips as to what oil to use with a Hartz 4
the German and Italian sellers seem to recommend 5/40 10/40 and even SAE90
i know a couple here have used these clutches and could offer better advice than the vague tips from these sellers

I spoke to Marco at LTH about these when I was looking for a decent clutch, he said sae30 with the cork plates on the earlier models, if it’s the V4.3 onwards they have carbon plates and use sae80w90 gear oil
Just remember you need to space the clutch cover so order the kit if you go for the clutch, I just fitted the PLC one as it was back in stock, no spacer and so light it feels ridiculous, it truly is 1 finger

Thanks mate all the info I needed in one place
mines the 4.3. And it comes with the spacer. i did ask one of the German dealers what the difference was with the 4 and 4.3. But they had no idea sometimes I think we are dealing with warehouse operatives rather than people who have a clue

We have a lot of $$ in our cases to use SAE 30 lawnmower oil. Oil which is not formulated for gears on the first place. There are a number of high quality, motorcycle tranny oils out there. They are designed for wet clutches so cork plates are not an issue.
Myself? All my stock or mild tuned engines get 80w-90 gear oil. It provides excellent protection on highly loaded gears and cruciforms. Never had a single issue in 20 years and I maintain a lot of local scoots.
I do use a special gearbox oil in my 265SST as the parts are nutso expensive.

I use the Maxim MTX 80-90 in the Quattrini, as JB states some of the parts are pricey so a few £ extra on the oil just as a back up
