Hi everyone, am putting my 1980 Blue Jeans Primavera back on the road after a long layoff (since 2003), It had been stored in a garage since but the last 2 years it has been in a shed where it has had more exposure to cold and damp. Am looking to retain the original paint and the patina, would appreciate if you folks could let me know if you have had success with rust & paint treatments to preserve the metal and look ? Cheers

Nice 👍would be a shame to loose the patina, glad you have asked the question about preserving the paint, because I have just got a 1967 ape500 and want to keep the patina, have done a bit of a Google around, and some people use boiled linseed oil, but you have to do it yearly, I am thinking alone the lines of a gentle rub back and matt lacquer, will wait to hear what other's have to say on the subject

Thanks for the comments folks, Movin 64, have put Kurust on some patches to test, turns the rust black and then might treat with Waxoyl after to keep inhibit it. Once the frame has been treated I will then look to get the mechanicals diagnosed and sorted, whatever surprises may emerge there....

Once the frame has been treated I will then look to get the mechanicals diagnosed and sorted, whatever surprises may emerge there.... I don't want to use kurust, I want to keep the rusty bits, just want to stop it spreading, that's why I was thinking of a light rub back to give lacquer something to bond to, and keep the rusty look

Is it a real Blu Jeans? I thought they were only made in 1976.

Movin 64, have been looking on t'internet far and wide and seems boiled linseed oil is what folk are using, some of the VW Kombi gang use Ankor Wax. Mixed reports from using rust converters and it changes the colour to black so the look is lost so might bag that idea. Also some say that it only converts on the surface so it continues to rust underneath, I guess continued rust is inevitable unless it is blasted and repainted it is just the speed of the deterioration that is changed......

Gugne, scoot is a 1980 model, frame number matches that year, not an expert on these things so don't know for sure if the Blue Jeans was a specific model designation for a year or the Max Meyer paint code. If it is the paint code then real otherwise fake Levi's 501's..

movin 64, is there a brand of matt finishing wax that the vw guy recommended and might try and do a test section at the weekend when I should have some hours to spend?

He said homebase, usually buy the chalky furniture paint, but it's probably all the same

If it is the paint code then real otherwise fake Levi's 501's.. The blue jeans was a super rare 1976 model made with a denim look seat in a lighter blue. Your is an ET3 in Blu Marina (Max Meyer code: 1.298.7275) I restored one a few years ago to show standard but when I'd finished I wished I'd kept the body and mudguard original and just done the rest. Good luck with your build. Loads of knowledge on here whenever you're stuck. Top people.

Gugne, thanks for the clarification on the blue jeans model...your restored scooter looks great in the photos, like it came straight from the factory. One part of me is tempted just to strip it, get it media blasted and then repainted as new but will stick with trying to keep the old paint for now, any questions I will ask for sure...
