So for large frame vespas, many are converting to using honda cr 80 plates. I have them for my malossi. I was thinking that it would be smart to look at whether or not any smaller displacement 2 strokes would have plates that would fit (with some mods) on a smallie clutch. Has anyone checked? I am going to inquire about the kx60 plates and diameter ..later today.. but figured I'd ask

Hi, the Hartz system uses Honda plates (CR motocross I think), the issue with the smallie is the compact size and clearance and requires a lot of machining to make anything fit, I’m not aware anyone has ever found a good off the shelf solution so will read with interest!

theres not a lot of point in going with same diameter clutch plates as the friction area will still be the same, the reason in using the larger diameter plates is the increased area and the use of an extra 4th plate increases it even more but the basket and spider are deeper to get the extra plate in as its a bit tight for a 4 plate in a standard vespa a 4 plate vespa single spring clutch will hold on to around 16-17hp if set up well with the malossi spring, after that you can use the xl2 clutch with some mods to space out the xmas tree and kick start to stop the spider rubbing on the basket, with this you can use 6 xxxl springs and carbon plates and that may get you up to 20-25hp or more. the cr80/xl185 plates are thicker than vespa plates so i would assume that any other mx plates would be the same so you would still be stuck with 3 plates, also the tabs are quite different and would still need a basket to match
