hi everyone I've eventually got out on my 50 special for few runs this week. engine was a rebuild with a polini kit added. after the 1st day of running it in I didn't go bck out until a few days later when I was putting the bike into gear it stalled every time, I put it down to the clutch cable has probably stretched slightly and with a slight bit of adjustment got it working again. the bike runs fine but I have noticed since adjusting the clutch cable and doing a few runs on it the kick start seems to have more compression than it did. it kicks over and fired up within 3 or 4 kicks but just feels like there is a little more resistance than before apart from that it fine. any ideas maybe it's just part of the running in period? thanks.

Check the gear oil level. Remove the spark plug. Kicks over with hardly any effort? You're ok.

Take the plug out, give it a kick. If it turns over nice and easy you do not have a problem just a high compression and a good set of rings

hi I have been tinkering around and checked gearbox oil which is correct also pulled the plug and it was smooth on kickover so no major damage. I noticed when I loosen the cluch cable on the adjuster slightly it gets easier to kick over but will cut out when put into 1st if I go slightly to much the other way. seems I need to get it correct within 1 turn or so. is this common the tighter the clutch cable the harder to kick over.

Sounds like you have it worked out, I think it's about 2mm free play at the lever as standard

Hmm, a "tight" clutch cable should not make it harder to turn over. With the clutch lever pulled tight to the grip, the kick-start should feel like it's almost doing nothing (once the clutch plates break free).
Are you saying that if you pull on the clutch lever, say moving it 1 or 2 centimetres, the engine gets hard to kick over?

when I pull the clutch leaver in it kicks over free with no effort what so ever. I think I'm probably just being paranoid as it's a newly built engine. I'm due to get the clutch upgraded soon anyway as with it being kitted and tuned I was told the clutch in it will probably only last 5 mins😂 I think it's running abit rich aswell due to putting 3% oil in whilst it being run in. abit of black oil from the exhaust.

So you pull the clutch cable which disengages the dive from the cylinder a nod gear box Then there is absolutely no connection between the kick start and the crank
That sounds right
Did you test it with the plug out..?

yeah thats correct and it was as easy when pulled the plug and tried it without the clutch pulled.

It just sounds like high compression I'm guessing that the kick lever will go down but just slowly and with a bit of resistance
If so that's correct

3% mix is LEANER than 2%. More oil means less fuel. Can't comment further without knowing your complete set-up.

2% is what's used on a standard Vespa The fast kits recommend 4%
3% is 50% more than 2% And with a decent carb it's easy to go up one size on the main jet a little tweak of the air screw and that would be the carb set
