stat test 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr . . been on the look out for worn out cases to build a test rig for electronic ignitions .both large n small taper . 1st vids been run up on a drill . cases n box 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr .2nd vid ive knocked up a cradle an got a chinky scoot starter motor driving it . need to secure a battery box ,an get hole saws an cut a piece of wood to be a control panel an hardwire stuff in .got a cheap voltmeter an a tacho ,so later with a variable power supply an strobe can alter rpm tested at an advance/retard on fancy stators .but now i have a nearly silent 12 volt AC supply ,rather than running a scoot ,can test the big boxes of cdi's/regs/horns etc an junk the failures . an test re-wired stators without driving neighbours nuts revving a scooter . H click on pictures for videos .

a battery drill with the correct socket on the fly side is great for turning the fly wheel with the plug removed
i recently had one of these as a pressie from a generous relative
these can test the cdi pick ups in situe. if you want to test higher voltages
such as the output from the high voltage stator coils you will need a set of these leads
these leads will reduce the voltage by 10 and cost about £5 a set

nice , a certain "captain" just sent me a link to another forum with this in use . cheap enough , all the 2nd hand scopes were large lab ones an a lot more money . H

yes he has a wealth of knowledge about scoots but nobody seems to know ignitions like he does

Some say he can guess your bhp and ft lb torque to within .1 before a dyno run 🙃 but we just know him as the Captain 👨✈️

friday 005 by henri briggs, on Flickr . an in case your wondering what i'm up too , this is the rest of the kit . a home-bodged gauss meter for checking polarity an strength of magnets (flywheels) , an a old px points stator with individually wired coils to hopefully re-magnetize weak flys . H

Proper science lesson going on here H! Next thing will be little squiggly diagrams in chalk on a blackboard ....
Do you think your rig will fix shit made off centre Indian HP4 flywheels as well....

how off centre , if its miles off an rubbing stator its a lathe job i'd of thought .ive had one a tad off an removed rivets a tap with copper hammer an re-tapped holes an used high tensile bolts instead .but that wasnt on a high revving tuned engine an i was desperate ,it worked but wasnt perfect .H

a link to the other forum showing the scope that i have being used by another user
this shows what a working pick up does. a large spike for triggering the cdi plus 3 smaller square waves on each turn of the engine
a thread form the other site erotica

When you ordered the kit you had an option to buy a pre soldered kit or the kit you've got there. The pre soldered kit needs only 8 small screws fitting and a couple of bits of plastic casing putting together and the two electricl circuits plugging together. Takes about 10 mins, but the kit you've bought yourself there will take a little bit longer. But i do know your not the only one that's bought that unsoldered kit.

weres the "fun" in 8 screws , an i wouldnt of wasted 10 minutes cursing the "destructions" an looking for the resistors an ceramic capacitors to solder on in step 6 n 7 .only to find em already fitted after reading the note "pictures are just for reference an your board might be different" .just need to get a jack plug an hook up a power supply an calibrate the bugger nxt .1st job is try n work out why my gauss meter only reads south poles an gives voltage drops .needle dont even twitch on north poles of magnets ,bloody you-tube an wikipedia tutorials .H

just waiting on a 5.5mm power jack plug .typically the large box of old phone/tablet/etc chargers an leads didnt have 1 suitable , same crap/same day sort of deal . have worked out i dont actually need a working gauss meter for the plan.turns out a small compass will tell me polarity ,an i sort of knew that but went all high tech-y on it . just saying ,dont get between me an the gifts in crackers on xmas day ,if its small n round its MINE . expect tantrums before queens speech if plan of bulk buying at poundland dont work out .H

well that didnt work out well . timings 002 by henri briggs, on Flickr . booted it up an screens duff ,your suppose to try it before soldering but didnt have a 9 volt supply then so cracked on an "voided" the warranty. nothin ventured nothin gained ,took piccy of just screen an sent it . said rather than risking same heres the extra 3 quid to upgrade to a assembled/tested one ,the sent me a good one an refunded 3 quid an apoligised .let the fun begin . timings 003 by henri briggs, on Flickr

this proves a polite message can achieve wonders. there not bad little toys but the battery life is quite short

sunday 004 by henri briggs, on Flickr gave up on my diy gauss meter ,kept getting weird readings ,seems it matters which side of hall sensors presented to the magnet for effect . so i went cheap n got a tiny magnetic compass to sort polaritys . sunday 009 by henri briggs, on Flickr . gave me the opportunity to examine magnet layout in other flys too . sunday 008 by henri briggs, on Flickr . get this mounted on a baseboard an wired up an find a old fly to re-magnetize nxt . sunday 001 by henri briggs, on Flickr . a quick re-wire an theres a high output 12volt stator . sunday 003 by henri briggs, on Flickr little fettle an it fits a vespatronic base plate nicely . sunday 006 by henri briggs, on Flickr sunday 011 by henri briggs, on Flickr an there we go ,on a px large taper centre , make a bracket to hold pick up an its testing time .
