Next job was the crank, DRT 54x105, superb piece of kit, it had already been setup by SRT so went straight in.

Setting up the squish was a pig, i had used the 8mm spacer from LTH and was still 1.3mm out, the spacer does measure correctly and luckily i had a few Parmakit base gaskets and needed all 3 of them!

Now on the issue!, i went for the SIP Vape ignition, it is a great unit and well made compared to some of the aftermarket system, also went for the variable option, however! it will need a serious amount of grinding to fit in the SIP casing, the issue would not be there on a standard casing, the EVO version has huge transfers cast in and the fitting for any stator plate would have to be modified, at this point it was a cuppa and leave for next week.

All setup and ready to be torqued down, I thought I had lost the gudgeon pin clips š, luckily they had slipped under the bottom of the box The intake is huge on this thing, actually larger area than my 240 Monza on my Lam

Another day, finally fitted the stator plate, had to remove a section of the baseplate to allow space for the cast in transfers. Next problem is the exhaust!!! I had the LTH system from the Parmakit however the header simply will not fit the M1 grrrrrr, the header plate is much bigger than the cast in aperture, I spent ages with a soft pad reshaping but was a waste as the stud spacing is different so you donāt have enough room to elongate the holes as the LTH has a sharp bend off the head so you canāt do up the nut, the M1 only has 56mm spacing between studs, the exhaust and Parma are 62mm. New exhaust needed which is a huge expense. Not sure with either the Franz or just bite the bullet and go for the M3XC from Quattrini, anyone had experience with either?

nice stator is it 3 phase It is impressive compared to other aftermarket ignition systems, Iām hoping unlike the Vespatronic on the PK the lights might actually work at tick over

So, managed to get more done this weekend. First job was the clutch, which contrary to lots of feedback of the Fabbri being a real pig, it was really simple, using a compressor āin situā it went straight in, also more clearance then the previous i was using, no spacers read! Also the integral bearing sits a little deeper in the clutch so to avoid a lot of travel I used the longer 14.5mm SIP plunger, with their clutch cover, well made with the geared clutch and using the MRP lever. Next some decent brake pads, using the Malossi race compound, hopefully help a bit.

Finally got around to fitting the engine, cabled up etc...... initially fitted the PWK, just wouldnāt fire, head scratch time, the inlet was flooding. Checked float, it is a brand new carb but always worth a check, same, wouldnāt fire, checked everything again, timing spot on. Tried a different carb, TMX 35, same again hmmmmmm shut the garage for a think. So, Sunday and tried another look, itās clearly drawing fuel but not igniting, the plug was sparking but didnāt look great, went back to the specs of everything then realised, I have a short spark plug fitted (quoted in the SIP instructions) but the SCK and Quattrini instructions spec a long thread, could it be that simple. Fitted a B9EG out the Monza and presto!!!
It fires and ticks over, smoking like a pig as the entire chamber must be soaked but it lives. The TMX is jetted close but needs a leaner needle, the kit specifies a 34 VHSB but is simply not available, the TMX is close and seems to work well, will fine tune this week and get in on the dyno at SRT

Aren't you supposed to run it in before sticking it on a dyno? Genuine question for my VMC build.

Hi Gunge, a nikasil barrel takes little running, I set many cylinders up this way, just mimimal load on the dyno to replicate Road conditions, much simpler and more accurate than plug chops and fiddling I find it much simpler and have an expert adjusting timing and jetting Just my preference

For how long?

So, having a few jetting issues, the cylinder keeps flooding on multiple carbs. The volume of air being drawn in just leaves the reeds dripping, even on the smallest pilot jets (I am running 34/35 mm carbs) After looking at various issues and discussions it would seem the Franz exhaust just doesnāt have the volume to keep up with the charge. so, have been in talks with Marco at pipedesign and he is building a pipe better suited to the large volume created by 150+cc, basically adapting their FALC curly 150 bullet exhaust for the M1L, looking at the results they are achieving it should really help the engine breath, and rev to scary levels A video of the same system adapted on a full spec M1L56 Also finally tracked down a 34VHSB from an Aprilla dealer as they come stock with the recommended jetting from Max.

So, the exhaust turned up today, strange when DHL knocked the door, I had to have my pic taken with the box instead of signing āāTis a thing of beauty

So, out came the engine as clearly something wasnāt quite right, a pressure test revealed a small leak, which with such a tuned engine it was completely cocking it up. Off came the barrel and there was clear evidence as the base of the cylinder near the inlet, on closer inspection it may be the number of gaskets required to get the squish, we used 3 thick Parma gaskets with the 10mm spacer, quick check and LTH produce laser cut alloy spacer for the M1, so ordered 1mm and 1.5mm plus a new set of Quattrini base gaskets (a whopping Ā£23!!) and they turned up for the 56mm spacing š Rebuilt and reset the squish .78 but thatās close enough, also finally the VHSB turned up. In the frame this morning, fuelled up and started first kick, sounds immense with the new pipe, similar to my MX bike!
