I’m after some advice initially. On a whim last year I bought a rough looking CB750 hat has a bad oil leak and poor bodywork. The guy selling it mentioned it was a Cat D write off but had been back on the road. I didn’t pay too much attention as I want to hack it about in any case so Re sale values are irrelevant. The V5c states under the special notes section that “This vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle”
It’s not on Q plate and was last mot’d in 2012 but I don’t know if this is pre write off or not
I intend to chop the seat loop out and put a cafe racer back end and modern forks in it once I’ve cured the oil leak. Anyone see any potential problems insuring it?

Won't be a problem at all. You couldn't be accused of hiding structural damage by doing the seat loop chop because to get Cat D (now Cat N) it must have suffered no structural damage.
Insurers might charge a little more as it's Cat-D, but there's no logic in that... shop about a bit. Adrian Flux are pretty good when it comes to unusual insurance asks.
Sure the crank case isn't damaged to cause the leak, though...?

Cheers Jimmy.
I’ve started stripping it. Crank case could be damaged but I think it’s it’s more minor than that as it’s leaking from one of the cylinder stud tunnels so hopefully just an o ring.

Distracted by a PK80 at the moment but I have found the cause of the leak. One of the cylinder studs is snapped and the oil from the rocker box was finding its way down the outside of the stud. Someone has no doubt over tightened it as the the missing piece with a nut and washer on top is not there. Hopefully I can just replace the stud assuming the threads in the crank casing are ok and then rebuild. Need to strip cams out etc and not done it yet.

Plenty of time as the nights are drawing in etc etc. I must be getting old as I said to someone at work we all have the same conversation about it’s getting darker earlier and clocks change next month like it’s a surprise !
