Hi guys, fancy going racing...?
2016 was the inaugural year for the BSSO new Production Class. The Class was devised to offer affordable racing with each marque competing with identical states of tune - the idea being that it's all about the rider!
The first season saw only Lambretta entries, all fitted with the type approved AF.Rayspeed RB20 kit (200cc), specific Franspeed exhaust, 30mm carb, SIL 200 gearbox, road stator with fixed ignition, lightened flywheel and type specific tyres (no matching, welding or modification allowed - just bolt on). All this mounted to 125/150 casings and fitted to any series three machine gives around 22 to 23bhp.
With the initial rules for Vespa's not on par with the Lambretta's, the BSSO members voted to allow changes for 2017 to provide more parity between the marque's and hopefully entice some Vespa's (small and large frame) in to the mix.
Vespa smallframes: Malossi aluminium MHR cylinder (no modifications) with matched transfers to casings (no welding). Any std stroke/rod crank with modified inlet or full circle, rotary induction can have the sealing pad enlarged or the Malossi 30mm cylinder Reed can be used with 30mm PHBH or VHSH carb, std gearbox, clutch and primaries can be up rated, std road stator with fixed ignition, lightened flywheel, NFK signature exhaust, type specific tyres.
Will it be a fair match? Well until someone builds one we don't really know...which is where I am currently at. I have been fortunate enough to be loaned a Production Lambretta from the start of the season (SRP Racetech) whilst the Vespa is built, so I'm perfectly positioned for that comparison when it's ready!
Keep you posted guys and wish me luck!
Huge thanks to VE UK, Chris Geyton at SRP, Super Sprint Restorations and Steve Chapman.
For full rules, please refer the BSSO website.
Discounted Vespa parts available as part of the BSSO race package from class sponsor VE UK.
