Hey there guys, i have recently purchased a 1993 jap import vespa 50s smallframe and need more power so i ordered a malossi 112cc complete kit(carb, exhaust, piston cylinder and head) from SIP, Do i need to do any work to the case to make this fit or is it a slip in kinda thing. also i can find NO instructions online on how to to install the kit, i am hoping there is an article here but not sure how to find it..
any help would be Fantastic
Cheers Michael Melbourme Australia

i have had a quick look and from that i am guessing that i don't need to modify my case to put in my piston and barrel, is that correct? the engine they are rebuilding is a 100cc and mine is a 50cc... also what is the primary drive? im new to all this and makes no sense to me

Hi, i've a pk 50 xl and have bought a 110 polini kit and i've changed the carb and exhaust. This is all new to me as i've never worked on a vespa engine before. In the early 80's i had a px 125 but just changed the oil and spark plug and i was able to get my hands in ! With a kit you are looking at changing the carb, exhaust and really the primary gears . To do the primary gears you will need to split the cases which if you don't fancy doing yourself you could pay someone to do this. I'm going to split the cases myself and change the primarys and then any seals. Theres info on the internet and on here how to do this work and the guys on here are very experienced and a great help. Might be better if you need any help to ask in the Tech section on here. Good luck and welcome

I think that i am comfortable with opening the case cause it shouldn't be to complaicated as i have done car engines before (well a VW beetles) and it should be simpler than that i would think. just not sure on which bits to buy other than the bits in the kit i purchased

the gearbox on the jap imports are totally different from standard 50 , best bet bolt the kit on and see how it goes otherwise you will be splitting the cases and uprating the xmas tree and 4th gear and the primarys. ive done one myself a few years ago nick W.A.

Hi I had similar kit on my jap 50S , started with recommended which from memory was either 22/63 (2.86) or 24/72 (3.00 )
Either way 4th gear was useless unless traveling at full speed in 3rd down hill with the wind behind you before attempting 4th !
On advise from others with Japs understand they have a much longer 4th than all the other Vespa 50 models , settled on 18/67 (3.72)
High reving but good through all the gears and 4th tops out at about 50 , only slight downside is you wont be in first gear much as the revs pick up quick and you'll be in second before you know it.

V90
The TV200's a cruiser, the Motovespa 150S ( 180) is a smooth sedan and the V90(133) a sports car.

No , all 4 gears work 🙂 Just saying you need to think careful when deciding ratio of primary gears , depends on your weight as well , I'm a bit chunky !
