Getting a T5 motor for my lardy til I eventually get round to fixing current engine. I was looking at getting a spare standard barrel and piston but it looks like they are rocking horse poo. So I looked at the Polini kit, they are about £40 cheaper and readily available but are cast rather than alloy. Anyone got any experience of these and are they a good alternative for the standard kit, or should I go for the Mallossi when the time comes?

Used one years ago against my perceived better judgement. Good kit but it needs care, known to be a tight bore and have sharp edges on the ports which you'll ideally chamfer and if not then give careful running in. Scotty Broon is a big fan of these so maybe give him a shout to see what he has to say.

just seen this one triffid , just stuck a t5/polini152 into my large frame hack after the px engine exploded on me . only finished it yesterday so not mot-ed an running it yet . 3 things , brake cables different at rear on a t5 ,thumb adjuster not clamp, an depending on which frame you can have clearance issues around rear of carb box .an jetting on a kitted t5 is tricky to get right , they have 1 stock size air jet a 120, an mallossi do a 185 1 to go with there kit ,an nothin in between .you can cut down longer px air jets to fit to get jetting spot on . I would probably fit my 28mil off my current 210 motor H, would probably have to reduce jetting a wee bit if I did.

just mot-ed today , its about 3 miles there n same back , half town n half open road (read 40mph but my speedo dont work, guesstimate 50-ish). havent nailed it in 3rd/4th yet so still expecting to come down on main ,but from feel not by much . plugs just a shade on "bourbon" side of ginger-nut ,but at least not the dreaded "rich-tea " ,on the biscuit scale. not proper plug chops so mixed riding but encouraging ,checked when i stopped at "church" to say a thanksgiving prayer for the pass ,an adjust up my stretched/dragging clutch cable . my church has "glass bibles" an a outside sitting/smoking area so seemed best place for some ad-hoc repairs . Ah, not happening now as deal for engine fell through (annoying as I bought an exhaust for it - do you need an almost new Sito plus H?) - there was too many bits missing off of the engine and it was going to cost the chap more than what I was paying for it to get the bits it needed. As it was a mate I just took the cash instead, which was a mistake as half of that has now been spent on the garden :0
