bought a salvage (Damaged) 1966 Vespa just waiting for it to arrive tomorrow. I think it’s a 150 Sprint, but hopfully you lot will be able to tell me. It’s going to be my winter project to keep me out of trouble, so ill probably have a lot of questions later. The plan is once it arrives to strip it down, send all the metal off to be dipped, then take the frame up to john in cumbria to get jiged. Some schizophrenic has painted the bike half red and half blue don’t ask me why? ? My plan is to find out the original colour, I take it I can find out via the chassis number? If so can anyone tell me how to do it? If the original colour is not quite to my liking then Im thinking of a duck egg blue or I do like grigio garda 711 as a colour for it. Anyone got any links to where I can buy parts for it, from trim parts to cables, clutch leaver, handle bar grips, tool box lid, full lock set that are period to a 66 bike Thanks in advance for any input Steve Few pics of the bike below

Looks half decent apart from the obvious. 150 sprint, the veloce is the slightly better model with round headlight and 3 port engine. Easy way to check is on scooterhelp.com and run the frame and engine numbers and see what it comes out with. Parts wise, eBay, beedspeed and SIP Best of luck

I'd have a look under the tank etc. to see if you can find the original colour, personally since it's being restored I'd just go with a colour that you like.
First glance shows that it's fitted with a P range kickstart which would suggest that the engine is a PX unit which is no bad thing and hopefully will be running Ducati Electronic. Glovebox also seems to be PX which doesn't belong on there and I'd get it off and fit a sparewheel instead but that's upto you.

The bike arrived just as I was putting my jacket on to go to work, So I got it off the wagon and put it in the garage; Im so tempted to say Im sick and get myself off home cough cough
Ill be all over it like a rash tonight, and put the chassis number / engine number into scooter help (thanks for that)
I think im gonna paint it grigio garda 711 I do love that colour
Glove box will be getting binned and spare wheel will be in its place
Cheers guys for your input so far

I would get the frame down for Mr vespa frame jig to make sure it is straight. You are going to need to check out th esteering too as the wheel shouldn't turn that far, you may have damaged steering stops, which would be an mot failure. Otherwise, best of luck with the build. Oh looks like someone has fitted indicators too, which would definately concur with Juan's spot for the PX engine

Great paint job for bank robberies.
"Witnesses reported a blue vespa arrive outside the bank shortly before the robbery" "Police are looking for a blue vespa - only a red one was seen leaving the area"

Funny how so many resto Vespas now have single bicycle saddles, as if it adds to the perceived 'classic' status.
I'm sure some standard models came with that setup but they were the first thing to get changed, probably!
They don't look right on a mid-late '60s machine, do they? In fact, I don't think they look right on anything except maybe a 98 or something from the early '50s.
Are they actually comfy?
Looks like a good, solid project tho.

Beware - single seat often means far east origin!
