Hey i'm new to the forum so bare with me!
just purchased my first scoot with this little thing, after being tempted by scooters for a long time as they are featured a lot with the scene i'm into I decided to take the plunge and get one,
I found this in an old guys garage not far from me, its an 87 douglas 125 pk, its got just under 5000 miles on the clock, runs well but needs some tlc, looks like its been painted by stevie wonder and his mates, so its booked into the paint shop at the end of the month and being returned back to white with some of the plastics in black, the speedo has been changed but doesn't work, the throttle sticks and its really smokey but maybe this is where it hasn't had a good run for a while, and only one indicator works, so I have a little list of jobs to crack on with, but once my helmet turns up i'm gonna give her a little spin up the road and see how she goes, after that i'll strip her ready for paint and send her away then i'll get my cbt done and once she's back i'll MOT her,
looking forward to getting a few little parts for her, not into massive chrome etc just subtle touches, more interested in her being reliable, the guy had it up for 1200 which I thought was quite steep, so he took 700 and delivered it to my door, good or bad I think it's fair,
based out in Essex just near Colchester and there is a good scoot scene out here so looking forward to meeting with like minded people,
p.s them chequred flags are going asap so no stick please,
speak soon,
bill

Nice one - £1200 is very steep but £700 not bad, I paid half that for a running PK a few years ago but before I sound like I'm gloating I then had to spend about a grand to get it running properly Yours sound generally small issues - indicator could just be the bulb or cable. If it is the cable, I wouldn't bother trying to replace the loom, just run a new wire. Throttle probably just needs a new cable (or just the old one lubing if you're on a budget). Or is it the actual throttle tube in the handlebar that's sticking? As for the smoke, probably just old oil in the exhaust. Nothing wrong with a bit of smoke IMO just go for a long ride once it's all working and see if it clears up, otherwise you can block up one end, fill with oven cleaner and leave overnight then rinse it out. I'd get it running soon after that though to dry it. Good for you not covering it in chrome (and getting rid of the flags).... Chrome don't get you home, but putting the money towards a cylinder will

cheers matey!!!
i'm not massive on chrome but we'll see if I keep the bits on or not when it comes back from paint, its a kick start only model so every time i'm checking the indicators i'm either pissing the neighbours off or coming out the shed like something on stars in there eyes!!!
lid should arrive today, so once I've given her a belt up the road she will start to be stripped
watch this space, your pk looks cool, i'm looking for another pk 125 side panel badge but can't find one on flebay? any ideas?

fixed indicators, the terminals had snapped off 3 of them where it looked like someone had forced the connection on, throttle doesn't hold the revs open so shouldn't be a problem,
something I did notice is that it has all the wiring in place for a battery? previous owner must of took the battery off? the lead is hanging there ready for a battery? don't know if its worth clipping a battery on and seeing if the electric start works? don't want to invest in a battery if it was taken off originally for a good reason,
bad news is a piece of the horn cover snapped off last night, I will have to adjust the other side to look the same.....

Chances are the battery was removed as the starter motor had seized but you never know. Maybe someone local can donate one so you can check it?

Hi guys,
got quite a lot done over the weekend, stripped most of it down aside from the rails as my battery had died on the drill so I couldn't take the head off the rivets, soldered the connections back on the lights, looks like my problem with the speedo was that someone had fitted a modern speedo to the bike and the clip that comes from the end of the cable doesn't marry up with the connector on the speedo, the cable has a clip like thing and the speedo has a threaded bolt type connection, so it was never linked up, the cable spins when the front wheel is turned so that no major thing to worry about, I have the old speedo so I will use that,
the main thing bothering me at the moment is that the rear indicators have been bodged badly, they don't marry up to the original holes, and I don't know the exact model of mine to get some new rear indicators, they have been messed about with and I don't really wanna put them back on, I need lenses for sure but the actual unit doesn't fit very well, all I know its a pk 125? what variant it is I don't know,
so the prep starts, its been about 6 different colours from the look of it so I'm ready to start DA'ing it down enough so its flat and ready for the primer, brok the horn cover at the weekend to, my 6 stone bulldog suggs jumped up and knocked it over, so i'll either repair it or get a new one, the throttle cable still stick a little, think its the spring at the carb end, list is getting bigger lol
don't think this will be as easy as I thought!!! oh well it keeps me from talking to the wench,

You have the first series of PK but it's been modified to accept PK XL units. If you look at XL's you'll notice that the units are positioned lower down on the chassis at the rear. I'm not really sure how you'll get around about it, either plate over them and start again or try to modify the holes so they fit a little better.

cool ok, when buying parts do I search for pk xl then will they fit this pk? as for indicators i've found this, will this be ok? www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/indicator+bosatta+rear+left+_57827000 going to scrap the chrome trim and go back to the black that they originally had, the left hand sill is a bit scabby to, might have to have a piece put in, as its not going to hold a rubber trim properly, also I need some new bulbs in the speedo and the indicator flasher on the display as the last guy hadn't taped and masked anything so they are covered in overspray, getting a nice little shopping list together now, does anyone recommend a certain place or website to use for parts, sip is good by the looks of it, but didn't know where people go, cheers

I'm also building stock on my own website however this is taking longer than expected and is mostly related to engine parts. Sort out your shopping list and send me the SIP part numbers and I'll quote you if you like Wayne www.wolfeperformance.co.uk

Will a T5 horncover work on this? nope! well....it'll probably fit but I dont think it will look right. I'd stick to a PK S or PK XL/FL one.

I had one on an older smallframe a while back which needed adapting anyway. not sure now I'm thinking about it whether the curve of the body is different, dont bodge it, it'll look big and dumb. just get a proper PK one from beedspeed/sip, etc or keep looking for one on ebay.

hey, haven't been about for a while been really busy, the smallie is going well all electrics working, all the paint is done, plastics all painted, fitting the pk xl indicators has been a pig but got there in the end, new doors fitted, new spare wheel holder, fitted a front brake switch which was tricky, hooked it up to the pedal brake yesterday that's all working fine, just clocks and toolbox and horncover to fit!!! how do people fit the toolbox/glove box as there is no spacew to hold the nut inside the horncover? struggling as I got chunky hands Attachment Deleted
