So, here are the photos of my Peugeot S57 scooter, recently arrived from the South of France, in bits. Started working on it this morning by stripping the engine out of the frame. Few bits of the frame need welding/straightening but it is overall, very solid. Also stripped the forks down and spent about another hour staring at it all and worrying about the amount of work this is going to take.... wow that is seriously solid for a 57 year old scoot !! only light surface rust as mentioned earlier.... wouldnt ya fancy a bash at getting the original engine going?? saying that could just get it running with new engine for now and have original engine on a shelf should you wish to return it to original spec looks a good solid project, all the best with the rebuild

Id attempt to get the old lump running first before sl otting thenew lump in Original engine produces a whopping 4hp I'm not binning it, will be put away in a box just in case my plans come to nothing, however pre-paint is the best time for me to have a crack at squeezing the Yamaha engine in. I'm hoping to fabricate a "cradle" for this new engine, so that it can then be mounted to the original engine mounts and of course be removed, should the need arise

Id stick in an RD350 motor,some auto forks with a disc on the front and a parachute ejection system on the back but that's just me being a heathen ;D

Big thanks to Tony (toffeemandog) for the supply of Yamaha engine for my project. Long drive up to Liverpool yesterday with a bit of work stuff en route. Engine looks like it will fit quite well, need to remove the old engine mounts and fabricate some new. Have already managed to fit the rear bodywork in place with the new engine sat a few inches higher, photo shows engine just resting on top of the old mounts but when done, will all sit 3 inches or so lower, so there is room to play with.....need to find room for tank, radiator, fan to force air through radiator and exhaust DSCF3783 by vespaloco, on Flickr

Cheers Nic for the link, plenty of food for thought there Started the frame modifications today, cutting out parts of the original frame was a bit nerve-wracking, no turning back now. Had to remove the rear cross member and replace it with a new one, lower and further back. Next need to make up engine mounting brackets front and rear. DSCF3819 by vespaloco, on Flickr DSCF3814 by vespaloco, on Flickr DSCF3815 by vespaloco, on Flickr making square box section tubing mate with round tube was a bit of a learning curve, especially as the round tubes of the original frame run tapering inwards at this point... hopefully welding in place will hide my inaccuracy DSCF3818 by vespaloco, on Flickr Am hoping to get the frame modifications finished shortly, as am home alone for a week, good opportunity to make a mess in the kitchen & living room.... I've managed to get some original 8" rims via ebay.fr that are much more solid than the ones the scoot came with, much like the difference between original Piaggio split rims and the FA Italia repro ones, and some more up tp date 4.00x8" Heidenau tyres DSCF3820 by vespaloco, on Flickr
