Dragster engine would save many headaches and they go like fuck even as standard.

Hey Rob - cheers for that. I'm not going down the auto route - I'm buying toffemandog's (tony) Yamaha dt125 project bike, which will be donating its engine and ancillaries. Outwardly this scoot is going to look totally standard, even down to the 8 inch wheels and the rubber band suspension and terrible brakes. It's just going to go a fair bit quicker (and not be able to stop...) ;D Well I'll be the first to say it, you're quite mad and verging on Sectioning. Fair play that man.

I'd opt for either a air-cooled Mk1 Piaggio (2-stroke) Skipper engine or Typhoon lump, both go well standard but the laughs are guaranteed if you decide to stick a Malossi 171 kit on it.

Engine choice is now settled - Yam dt125lc I've discounted the auto option for numerous reasons, top of which is I don't like automatic anything vehicle wise, I prefer gears Also, the layout of this old scoot is somewhat different to others in that the engine is a seperate unit and the rear swingarm is also independant. This means that by using a compact 125 engine such as the Yamaha, I can keep the rear final drive/brake/wheel/swing arm, maintaining the original look and in theory without buggering the chassis around so much it cannot be put back to standard. What I will need to do is fabricate/butcher new brackets to sit the new engine onto the original engine mounts, leaving room for a radiator and some form of possibly mechanically driven or electric air extraction system.... Should have all the parts together in a few weeks (thanks to toffeemandog) and some parts blasted & primed ready to tackle some kind of dry build Oh, and there is also the fact that this engine can very easily have a dt175 cylinder swapped onto it without increasing the actual size/height of the engine - which is a bonus
