What have I done, or rather Qu'est ce que j'ai fait - Merd alors! Will be with me in a fortnight or so as it is currently in a garage in the south of France - this is the scooter that I have always dreamed of rightly or wrongly..... IMG_0223 by vespaloco, on Flickr Only one forum for this scoot, which unsurprisingly is all in french. Don't suppose anyone on here has one of these? Or any spares?

Is that a wooden foot rest? I do a bit carpentry in my spare time, could knock a new one up for you.

Is that a tool box over the front wheel? sure is Jim, has a legshield toolbox too detail-05 by vespaloco, on Flickr Also the rear fairings hinge forwards for engine access, which I like. Suspension, worryingly is by means of thick rubber bands front and rear, oh and the springs under the seats... ;D

Quite cute that.
Push come to shove and the motor is a goner it should be fairly easy to graft in a modern Auto lump.

on holiday at the mo and doing some thinking about the engine for this thing.
I think it is as standard 51mm bore and 60mm stroke giving 123 or so cc.
What could be bastardised onto it I wonder...? Any ideas?

Quite cute that. Push come to shove and the motor is a goner it should be fairly easy to graft in a modern Auto lump. Away on hols at the moment and spending quite a bit of time poolside thinking about this project. Initially I had imagined doing a totally faithfull original resto but am maybe not so keen on that now. There is quite a bit of room underneath the rear fairing and it all sits off quite a substantial tubular chassis - not Lambretta style as it runs down either side rather than being a single pole. So, now my idea is to replace the engine/gearbox, which is a 3 speed 125, developing a mighty 4hp with something more interesting. I remember reading a long time ago about some parrallel twin cylindered 2 stroke (air cooled) 125cc bike engines that had pretty good tuning scope - japanese I'm sure but I can't remember exactly what they were from - anyone have any idea/recollection?

I bet you could fit an aprillia rs125 engine under there. Good for 30-40bhp when unrestricted ;D

RD 125I couldn't bring myself to Butcher a classic bike and I wouldn't expect to find it easy to track down a decent motor on it's own.

What about using a 250 four stroke dirt bike lump?

Wanting to stick to 125 really as I'm a serial CBT'er @juan - thats the one, rd125 twin - investigation reveals that it'll be a difficult road to go down in terms of price/availability. The LC single cylinder engine (rd125lc) seems suitable though, reasonably powerful, relatively easy to find and lots of parts availability. Quite compact too. Still waiting for the scoot to be delivered, be a day or two yet

This sounds like it could be a really interesting build thread whatever you end up doing. Im gonna keep tuned for developments. I like the idea of a retro auto sleeper. Just a bit concerned you get any new geometry (associated to running larger tyre size etc) sorted and that there would be enough space inside the front there to hide some upgraded forks. I'd be tempted to leave the bodywork as is just get your mechanicals right and keep it lowww!
All the best!

If it were me I'd be looking to go down the auto route with it, even those 50's with 70 kits go like a scalled cat with a Rocket up it's arse, but if you're dead set on a bike motor give it a quick measure up and get down your local bike breakers to see what they have. I'd probably look more towards the 'Crosser end of things.

Might be able to source a dragster engine if you're interested in going the auto route.
