Dont coat them with anything, I've been running mine for quite a while now, just give it a good coat of WD40 after every run, it wont go rusty and it keeps the natural finish, I tried all you are suggesting on a GF pipe and the best is WD40 imo

I'm getting mixed advice! Somebody else suggested repeated coats of mineral oil, but I thought I'd use the VHT lacquer... now that I've bought it. And a heat gun. And some IPA. That little lot cost me £44!

Andy - it'll be fine coated. Problem with coating with the VHT lacquer is that most people, myself included don't do the job right first time.
It is a pretty good product but just needs care, preparation & patience.
Without the above it is not so good.
The finish on my second attempt is holding up pretty well a year on.

Just brought it in. It's gleaming, a mirror finish!

Slip joint
Should I put a smear of red silicon on it or leave it dry, so it comes apart easily for wheel changes?

It's not necessary really. It's tight enough as it is. Silicone doesn't do any harm though.

looks great mate... is the header straight to begin with mathias? And this pipe fits an Et3 with toolbox?

Ellbow is straight with 32mm inside diameter and just under 80mm length, and yes, it fits smallies with a glove department/toolbox.

I'm making my engine 'future proof,' for when it eventually goes in my Primi. God knows when that will be.

Started first kick as well. For some reason I wasn't expecting it to; maybe because I haven't run it for a couple of months.

you dont need a gasket, nor anything on the slip joint, its not a wanky slip joint

I put a tiny smear of red silicon on there. And a silicon gasket as well...

I did two of these pipes. I've used a solvent degreaser to clean them and high temperature clear lacquer from sip and backed it using the hot air gun method and it worked great (even managed to burn myself! ). ;D
