Very nice! Reminds me of a mkIV Ld I had. Are you going to put any small frame bits on it?
;D

Smart. That colour's nice.
What does that damper thing do? It seems to be attached to the same thing at both ends!
Excuse my ignorance. I know f'all about LDs apart from they have shaft drive.

But how does it work? Does the shaft housing/gearbox pivot on the crankcase?

Hi, It is a torsion setup, where the last section of the shaft drive pivots upwards, lenghthening the damper under load, it was a bit of a pig to fit but a complete bitch to rebuild, had to heat it on the coals of hell to split it......but at least old school stuff was repairable, rather than bin it when fucked. There is also another small damper which connects the pivoting section to the frame, but i'ts not fitted yet. The colour was chosen after putting an original panel in an analyzer to find a match, it turned out to be an old vw colour, which made sense as these scooters were built in the vw factory in Neckersulm, alongside their car production. Another bit of trivia for you, these German built NSU Lambrettas were the first models the exported for the american market, and were sold throughout the US using the BMW car dealership network. Thanks for your nice coments, cant wait to start my smallie ;D ;D

That colour would look lovely on a V range, as well.

Out of interest for the trivia this was a lambretta licensed product wasnt it? If so how many parts were interchangeable - IIRC that torsion bar set up came from the Lc did it not?

Hi Rob, yes it was a Lambretta licenced scooter, which did have some interchangeable parts, but not as many as you would think looking at them. The motor is much the same, the gearbox too, torsion bar, clutch, rear hub, shoes, frame, bars, and sidepanels are interchangeable. most of the other body panels look the same, but have small differences.

But that scooter is nice as it is. Just hook up the engine and the perfect smallie is ready. Original paint scooters are hard to find these days, especially ones in that nice condition. End of the day its all you but I feel like I have to mention this every time someone is doing this.. Anyway, enjoy your build!
