Anyone fancy entering a forum team? I found these set of rules for this years event. The venue has changed this year to RAF Odiham near Basingstoke.
CHARITY MOPED ENDURANCE EVENT AT RAF BENSON 17th July 2010
Well it’s that time of year again and this year RAF Benson’s Motorcycle Club will be hosting its 13th (unlucky for some) annual moped endurance event (Mopedathon). This year’s very worthwhile charity is Sobell House Hospice which provides palliative and end of life care to the residents of Oxfordshire. Over the last 12 years the event has grown, attracting numerous teams from the local area and the military.
The event is an eight-hour endurance competition for bikes with a maximum capacity of 90cc four stroke and 50cc two stroke. There are no limits on the number of teams that can attend and each team will be made up of 4 riders. The event has raised tens of thousands of pounds over the years, with the 15 teams that entered last year from various military units and local bike clubs raising an amazing £4413.13.
The way we raise funds is by charging each team a minimum entry fee of £100, which we encourage you to raise through sponsorship (forms are attached to entry pack up).
We must emphasise the Mopedathon is not a race. Laps are not timed or counted; it is a fun day out riding on a circuit with the most unlikely of machines. There will, however, be several trophies awarded during the event for the Ugliest Moped, Slowest moped etc. Do what you can to make your moped and team stand out.
Please fill out the forms attached and send them back to one of the people below as soon as possible.
We look forward to hearing from you.
THE CIRCUIT
1. Remember, THIS IS NOT A RACE.
2. Read and comply with the technical regulations.
3. Riders are to wear clothing that will afford adequate protection in the unlikely event of a crash. These will be:
➢ One or two piece leathers or equivalent protection jacket and trousers (Not Jeans).
➢ Full or open face helmet – must confirm to British Standards (ACU Sticker).
➢ Leather Gloves.
➢ Leather Boots.(Not Trainers)
4. Again this year we WILL NOT allow any form of dangerous riding. A “2 Chances and your out” rule will be enforced. 1st black flag and team will stop riding for 15 Minutes. 2nd black flag and the whole team concerned will be asked to stop riding for the rest of the day. This rule has been put in place so that everyone has a great day, not to kill off your fun.
Moped Technical Regulations
Each moped entered in the Mopedathon will be required to pass scrutineering. We appreciate that the machines entered will mostly be approaching the end of their useful life, but they must be at least safe to ride. This is to ensure that the mopeds are not a danger to the rider or other participants.
1. Engine capacity must NOT exceed 50cc for two strokes or 90cc for four strokes.
2. One moped per team.
3. Mopeds to be adequately silenced, excessively noisy bikes will fail scrutineering.
4. All glass items (headlamps, indicators etc) are to be removed or taped up.
5. Mopeds must have adequate front and rear brakes.
6. Tyres are to be in a safe condition and have reasonable amount of tread.
7. Mopeds must have a clearly on/off (kill) switch (a Ty-wrap on the HT lead will not do).
8. The fuel system is to be free of leaks, the tank is to have a sealing cap and have means of shutting off the fuel supply.
9. Mopeds must have a clearly visible number plate of sufficient size to display 6” high figures.
10. Mini Moto’s are not classified as mopeds and therefore teams may not enter without a moped.
Note: The words “reasonable “and “safe” as applied in these guidelines have been used in order to allow an amount of common sense and minimal expense to be involved in moped preparation. However should any moped be found to be in a blatantly unsafe condition, it will not be allowed to take part in the event, until the defect/s has been rectified.
