Alright so this past weekend I had my first Sprint race it was a 1/8th mile I won my class and I was one of the fastest bikes there. I posted decent times and good speeds but I fail at reaction times. Can anyone give me any hints on getting better reaction times? My next race is the 2nd weekend in June and I want to improve on what I did this past weekend. Thanks for any help offered. Dan

I guess all you can do is practice to increase your reaction times. Try pre empting the green and actually go on the orange. If you have slow reactions you'll actually go on the green if you know what I mean. ;D ;D ;D By the way I have no experience yet, just observations!!!! Good luck with the sprinting by the way

I dunno how you launch your bike... but you can gain time (at the expense of clutch plates) by holding the revs up,in gear with the bike pulling but stopped from moving by the brakes... So you may save a fraction of a second as the bike is already on the biting point. Other than that-take up a martial art... that will sharpen your reaction times.

Go and "read" the Christmass tree. Watch it, and learn the speed of the sequence. Good sprinters have 0.01 seconds or so of "reaction" time. That's just not possible physiologically. The trick is to watch the christmass tree and get it's rhythm. So as soon as the light goes from prestage to stage, you could actually close your eyes and go through the motions inside. Circuit racing is different and you actually want a "proper" reaction there because there is not real sequence before the flag drops, or the light goes green

Thanks for the input guys. My next race is on the 12th so I hope to put some better times down. My biggest problem after seeing videos of myself is that I wait till the light is green to go. I can not do that if I want to get my times down. I am fast enough to do good but I want to do better and not take the chance of losing a race because of poor reaction times. Will keep you guys updated if I did better during the next round.

Keep u bike level. Ask how the lights / timings work at your races, often your reaction times don't come into play with your overall time, it just starts when u cross the beam.

Keep u bike level. Ask how the lights / timings work at your races, often your reaction times don't come into play with your overall time, it just starts when u cross the beam. In Italy it usually is "quando voi". As soon as it's 1/4m or 1/8m there's a good chance that they will use a prestage, stage, red, red, green christmass tree, or one with tripple red (or yellow). As I said, just watch the tree. It alway has the same rythm once it starts the sequence, you just go dadum, dadum, fire ahead after the first red without even watching the light really. check out here maybe: www.rbracing-rsr.com/nhraxtreesp.htmlNot the real thing, but good enough to get the idea.

That's 0.026 seconds, anything below 0.5 is considered a red light. Very good. I'm sure you did that first try, and 9 times out of 10 after that. Charly, Bradford is to small for you, the world's waiting.
