oright so ive been instructed to uild a J-series for my sister meg, as well as build my exaust im going to just take my time with it and try take on both switching beetween the two it shouldnt take me long i hope after all its all staying standard, it needs new seals and some bearings i think may be more, know the cylinder needs to be rebored and an oversised piston is needed, but im going to split it and check over everything else to be sure i think, - just to make sure her first scoot is a pleasent one and nice to ride cased are mucky so they need to be cleaned also ( came from itally i think, looks like it has been ran about on feilds all its life) want to make it look like new really so all tips hints and other things will be taken into consideration but there is going to be no tuning that is going to remove power elsewere taking place anyways ill get some pictures up ;D here is the engine as you can see its all standard in a bit of a state you can see a bit of mud build up standard inoccenti Carb s'more mud this is a bit of her but is blocked by the jet 200 frame in the way took weel of, just luck at the mud on the inlet i mean, didnt the previos owner ever have to take it apart? ah well if he didnt better to him eh? dont know how to get the flywheel off carbs off exhaust outlet needs a bit of the crap removing! old exhaust major problem is the siezed piston, and its properly siezed!! side casing o and it doesnt look bad at all in there! t that doesnt look right is it out of line?!? clutch.... i got to admit it does look like this side has deffinatly been done going to clean the casing up real nice but anybody know what is a good cleaning thing to clean em up well?? cheers all anyway and this is the J-seireis i am building! will be going on LCGB too

I've never looked because I only have a smallframe but is there another forum just like this but specifically for J-Series Lambrettas?
I wouldn't know where to start on that

Good luck. (I can't stand Lammy's myself, think they THE ugliest things on this planet. I always want to rip the front mudguard off and attach it to the forks...can't stand the way their fixed to the legies ;D ) But hey, each to their own!

For the engine, remove all of the dried mud first then use a good de-greaser and a lot of elbow grease. I've also been told that CIF cream cleaner is quite good.

cheer lambro i think its a 125 as i dont think they did bigger than a 125 but im not sure it does look like its fair big cylinder though i believe it is a 4 speed but will double check, may be a 3! ;D - ill get the detials when i go down into the cellar next for you lambro, ;D - (will measure piston width beacause i cant measure the lenghth of cylinder at the moment to give an indication of CC) i think ill need a new tyre on beacause it will be rock hard and therefore probably dangerous and new gaskets also i do find that the speedo looks a bit mental haha! ;D

No need to measure barrel etc. Pic of seat, and frame under seat, or badge on the front will do And for Jaques, J range with a turny mudguard ;D

Charlie, I think there is a wire around the ali cover for the flywheel on those, round the edge isnt it? then I think you turn the cover holding the flywheel still and there are some tabs you line up then pull off and its similar to a smallie flywheel then I think. Get a wire brush on the mud first, then I use a plastic drawer tray my mrs brought home from her school and use either petrol or thinners in a spraygun and spray engine, use a brush to work into all the nooks n crannys, works for me but you may need to do that a few times lol. Get some deisel in a bucket, and put the engine in it barrell first to get that piston soaking for a few days, you can get it down the exhaust port too now you have that off, good luck with it

My first ever scooter was a Lammy J range Starstream on a G reg. Bought it for £15 in 1980 off an old guy, was just sitting in his front garden. Good luck with the project Rich

I'm testing my memory now, but I think the piece in the middle of the flywheel is just a dust cover and turns and pulls out and there's a nut in the middle. By the way I realise you have probably already found this out by now, but just wanted to see if my memory works that far back now I'm in my mid 40's Rich

I like 'Js.' A mate of mine had a Super Starstream in the early '80s. He chopped it in for a brand new PX125E, the boring bastard.

You have to be a member of the LCGB to join the forums. If you are the lad who does the admin has been on holiday.
