I have recently purchased a 50 special that has 3 gears but was told by a guy that is a vespa enthusiast that it can't be a special because the specials had 4 gears is this correct? Thanks

Is it a UK square headlight one? Sometimes the imported scoots are also called 50 specials but they have v90 type headset and usually 3 gears in this case. My first one was a UK 1980 model and it was 4 speed.
