just upgraded my ET3 with a new 12v conversion loom and a Early PK flywheel and stator plate + new coil regulator. all fitted well but can't get it to start it just keeps backfiring? is that a timing issue? as not sure if its set correctly

ok thanks will have a play with it, the flywheel and stator are early PK (Flywheel is for the 19mm crank) any issues using PK parts anyone know of as it is the same engine as the ET3. All fitted perfectly on the crank / casing etc

Ok just an update, have been feckling with the timing this afternoon, spent over an hour advancing & retarding can't count how many times I took the flywheel off! every adjustment same backfiring won't start. So I ended up comparing the NOS PK flywheel and stator against the original 6v flywheel/ stator. The stator is identical in set up / measurements but the PK flywheel slightly protrudes that of the original. So I thought why not put the original one back on. Hey presto! engine fired up first kick, no back firing. Just got to fiddle with the wiring have rear lights but no front so probably got a couple of wires in wrong holes (new loom all different colours great!) Also can't get it to idle would that be too weak or rich air/fuel mix? any help appreciated.

so you accidentally fixed the bad connections and the scoot works result

Thanks, any advice why it doesn't idle, turning the idle screw makes no difference is it a combination of turning the air screw maybe weak or rich? This is a Polini 135 with 25mm Delorto carb set up. All new stuff to me never had a tuned scooter apart from when I put a 152 Polini on a T5 back in 1987! haha was the fastest scooter in my club at the time but everyone hated the looks me to looking back haha. We all started out on smallframes and should be cherished as we are a dwindling number and they look the best!! Brought my ET3 already restored previous owner spent 5 grand including scoot but left the old 6v wiring in ?? I also have a 1983 PK125S Italian import in 2003 found it sitting in a shed in Birmingham apart from a Cadburys Purple rattle can spray over it was totally original with no rust. just done a nut and bolt resto but decided to leave the engine standard I get 60mph quick as a PX 125 if not better
