Hi I am getting a mk4 malossi 135 cylinder ,valve kit with 25mm carb ... I have been reading old posts and read that it will only get about 60 top speed.?and if I was to put a 27/69 upgear kit it might not pull 4th. .. Plus I was going to get a pm40 pipe but read they weren't to great. Can someone point me in the right direction of what to do .I'm not after 100mph speeds but I thought I could at least do 70

if it was me I would get a DRT runner tree, I had same probs on my polini. 1st 2nd 3rd great, 4th shit. put the runner tree in with a franz pipe and I was pulling 75mph+ but I had my barrel top n tailed and a 28mm carb, but the runner tree is the way to go, and I would also use a BGM superstrong clutch, light on the hand and holds well under load.,

I was running 28/69 with 90/10 tyres gave a bit more top end I did upgrade to the DRT sports basket, I had one brake in my other engine springs everywhere lol the 28 tooth cog was a separate item from DRT got it all from sip and the franz pipe was great, but there are other pipes available

How was acceleration did it have a lot of torque.? The gearing is starting to hold me up with my engine build...I have been advised to run it with original gearing see how it is if not take engine out and change it.. Hassle .... So I need a new clutch basket as the drt cog is straight.....and put a drt Christmas tree in.... I think I'm going to get the pm40 exhaust..the price of some of the others are a bit pricey

I’ve got the DRT runner tree in mine and 27/69 straight cut 10pollici sell the DRT stuff cheap but the postage is a bit more so if your ordering quite a bit of stuff it’s well worth getting them from them.

In my experience the PM was pretty noisy compared to the Franz and didn’t run as well. The Franz is a bit more but it’s a work of art and your engine will love it.
Over the years of fiddling with smallies I’ve bought too many pipes and ended up spending more money than if I’d just bought the right one first time....
