Hi everyone I recently bought a vespa after about 30years thinking about it, unfortunately after riding about 20 miles on it the rear wheel came off, luckily i was only doing about 30mph. The damage didnt seem too bad so I have spent the last week or so trying to sort it out, engine seems fine apart from broken rear brake housing and flattened off brake shoes. The problem I am having is that the clutch wont engage anymore it was fine previously, I have to admit that whilst trying to sort out the rest of the scooter I did tighten up the clutch cable - could this have caused the problem and if so what can I do to rectify it. Any thoughts would be appreciated
cheers

Hi Your problem could be any number of issues. What model Vespa is it? Did the wheel come off at the axel,or the hub/rim? If so, depending on the model, you could have damaged the clutch release arm, I've seen this on a P range Vespa. Have you got any compression at the Kickstart? With the scooter in neutral?

Sorry, just realised, the head line to this post, 1974 motovespa!🤣 And I'm asking what model it is! Doh! Like I mentioned, the incident I am aware of, was a PX, the rim sheared off at the hub studs, causing impact into the clutch return arm, further causing damage inside the clutch housing, thus the clutch would not engage. This was overcome by stripping and rebuild the clutch housing, the brass plunger that engages with the clutch release arm, was replaced, and problem solved. Hope some of this is helpful. Mav👍🏻
