Hello smallie people. So after the catastrophic failure of my MHR exhaust I'm looking for recommendations for a good replacement. my engine spec is alloy MHR cylinder kit with direct reed & 25mm phbl, anyone else using this kit out there? What pipes are you using? Thanks Neil

Not using that kit myself but I'd be looking towards a Franz, LTH midrange or maybe a VSP.

No matter how it was positioned it either hit the hub nut cover or the inside the frame towards the rear on the corner of where the side panels end & the rear muddy starts (crap discription but how else would you describe it? ) at about the same level as the top of the back light. Anyway, after a few bumpy roads it has cracked the pipe approximately 4.5" from the manifold (almost all the way through).

That sounds odd- Malossi make a song and dance about how well this exhaust is meant to fit. Which model was it on?

50 special , the pipe just a very tight fit EVERYWHERE! I even had the frame checked to make sure it was perfectly straight & ended up extending the shock mount but 9mm ( the max I could get it while still being able to get a nylock on) to give it a bit more clearance. What happens is as the shock compresses the exhaust hits the lhs (as your sitting on it) first which moves the whole pipe to the lhs & forces it into the hub nut cover & puts strain on the pipe at the point where it first starts to bend as it comes out of the manifold which in turn has caused it to crack. I went for the whole malossi package, cylinder, reed valve, ignition & it's a shame it was let down by the pipe because in over 700 miles since I built it it's given me absolutely no trouble whatsoever.

Well Im just about to do the same as you with a 50 special. Malossi cylinder, and pipe so this does not bode well!
Have you been in contact with Malossi about this?

Yes through the shop that I bought it from, as of yet no answer. Unless the pipe is re-designed this will keep happening. I know others have had problems with them cracking too. As for the cylinder, ignition & reed set up, I can't fault it. It's been as good as gold. What's your spec? Cheers Neil
