Hi everyone. My name is Joshua and I live in South Africa. I’m just about 13 years old. I am a newbie to Vespas, but my dad has bought and rebuilt/restored many of these machines. My plan is to document the rebuild as I go. I’m sure I’ll have questions, thanks in advance for all assistance... Thanks Joshua Here’s what I’m starting with:

Took the paint off with a scraper and a small metal brush. Then add more paint stripper, did that twice...

great start and a solid base for your project. Paint wise it is entirely up to you, it is your scoot, you will get the keep it standard brigage, the go mad and exotic brigage and everything else in between so do whatever you feel you want to do for yourself What plans do you have for the engine?

Hello triffid. Thanks for the encouragement and I have found this website www.vespafarben.de/ . They have the selection of original colours, so I think I’ll use one of those! My plan for the engine is to give it a good clean... To keep everything stock and hopefully build a really reliable engine

Nice work there on the tank.
For the inside, you’ll want to make sue to take any rust off. The way I do it is, i take the tap off, fill the tank with fine gravel and give it a whole lot of shaking. Then a good clean, and swirl the inside with rust converter or tankerite.

cleaning the tank fill it with a couple of lts of domestos LIMESCALE REMOVER plus a couple lts of water domestos LIMESCALE REMOVER contains phosphoric acid and a bit of soap the soap will remove any oil while the acid will remove the rust it can take a few hours to do the job
or you can jet wash the inside of the tank and then treat with a rust remover

Nice one Joshua, only ever saw on Vespa in SA and that was in Durban (I'm originally from Ballito near Durbs).
Your tank looks like mine after a can of Nitromors. Wirebrush and rust converter is what I used on the outside.
Keep it up and best of luck.
