Hi All,
I'm 47 at the moment and have started on my 50 before I'm 50 list, there were 3 things from my teens that I never did.........
Build a fast Lambretta GP TS1 - Check Build a Fast Vespa 50 Special - Check (Build Thread on Here) Build a Fast Classic Mini - See below.........
Its gonna take some time but I still have 2 years 3 months to go
I looked around and googled Clasic Minis for quite some time before deciding which build I wanted to take on. I could have opted for a rear motorbike engine build or I could have replaced the front subframe and slotted in a modern motor. I decided that I would choose to keep the Mini A+ block and see how fast I could make one of those go whilst also trying to keep it as reliable as possible. I decided that I would keep the mini block and add a BMW K series twin cam head and then add a turbo on top for good measure. I'm not the first to do this in fact there are a number of kits available on the market to do so.
So on with the build........
I managed to source a mini block from good old eBay.
I removed all of the other engine studs apart from these three as these are the only three studs from the original block that can be used. As Im dry decking the block and head all of the other visible holes will be filled and then 7 more stud holes will be drilled and tapped. All 10 will then be replaced with longer, stronger ARP bolts
I also managed to source a full K1100 engine including throttle body's I'll use these later on in the build. The first thing to do was to remove the head, keep any parts that I needed and then sell on the other parts The head looks a little bit messy here but that's nothing that cant be sorted out. All of the oil ways and water ways will be ally welded and sealed and then new oil and water ways will be added externally. This is how the BMW K Series Bike head sits on top of the mini engine Front of engine and inlet side Rear of Engine and Exhaust side. The rusty exhaust bolts will be removed and new ARP studs added Updates coming soon. Hope you enjoy the build

All Bead Blasted and De coked It looks just as good as new Next for the head is to get dry decked which is when the oil ways and water ways are welded up on the block and the head and then new external feeds are added.

So sent the head off for ally welding a couple of weeks ago to Alex @ The Car Kitchen, A great bloke that really knows his stuff. All oil ways and water ways welded up And Head surfaced Next jobs for Alex are to drill and tap the oil drains, re cut the valve seats and lap them, get some solid ally bar so he can knock up a water take off for the side of the head Once that's done we can move on to the Head cover, the plan is to buzz down the two lines below and then paint the rest red

Looking good. Alex is a great lad, does some nice work. If the crank is good, then I can get it done in the next couple of weeks as I'm working at home.

See, this is all very lovely and very clever. However what you need to do and really upset everyone is to fit it into an Allegro shell.

Ive never got over my mate driving us round in a mustard colour one when I was a nineteen year old stoner. Un re liable as hell Hopefully the mini will be better

H I haven’t finalised plans on the shell yet. I’ll be buying the right car when the engine is finished and then dropping the engine in. Any changes to the car itself will be done after that

Any ideas on the aesthetics as yet?
I always thought the 1100 Special was nice looking little motor. My mum had the rose pink one with beige vynal roof in the early 80's, silver with black was better. Nice alloys they had on them. Clubman 1275 GT was decent looking too.
