I gotta be honest, that's a pretty clean looking weld for a case that's been holding oil.

i agree with the "chufty 1" , an a good honest welder will "feel" wether the jobs a gud un ,its like a sixth sense ,you just know as the arc shuts down its good , an i hate welding ali ,give me steel anyday ,mostly coz i weld ali seldom an it takes a bit to get ya "feel" back , an i also enjoy re-cycling what others call scrap ,way more satisfaction that way , h

Gave half casing to machinist today, fingers crossed he gets time for it tomorrow. Ported inlets yesterday. I think I did alright. I actually went through on the flywheel side, so having that case half sent to the same welder for some repair welding I just went through with a tiny little hole, so to keep the porting as is, I think I will have the welder put a blob on the outside of the port, and I'll just cut the vespatronic flywheel enough to still be able to mount it and keep some adjustment. I may put up some photos of the hole (and the repair). I think I was too angry to bother taking any pictures when I realized what I had done Casing half ready for porting: Copper paste on cylinder marks my area: Copper paste replaced by permanent marker: Off we go: Done:

Got back from vacation today, and what a coincidence; the machinist started the milling one hour after I walked in the door

In progress, face milled: Finito: There are some notchy areas her and there due to not enough welding material, and the welding also had a bubble or two in it. All in all it ended up really good. I will mount the new bearing with cylindrical sealing so I'm not worried about the circlip breaking out again anyways. Now I just have to find the time to reassemble the motor

I've had basically no time for this engine this winter, but I've spent a few hours the last couple of days to reassemble it and make it ready for installing into the scooter. I'm also considering carrying the scooter down the narrow stairs to the basement so I can have the engine installed by the time the snow goes away. Can't wait to get to ride my lovely little smallie again! Don't really have no recent photos, but I'll just throw a few in to keep the thread going till I do Casing half ready for assembly. Assembly has been an absolute dream with my new engine stand. Bearing on the run brought a few things with it...
