I'm ashamed to admit that she has been in a shed for 9 years. I was given her by me wife and a good friend about 15 years ago. At the time I had three others scoots. I cleaned her up and got her road legal, then rode her on and off for a couple of years. But she was always third or fourth choice. So I sent her off to the south of France where my in-laws lived at the time. The idea was for my father-in-law to ride her and I would also use her when visiting, twice each year. This worked well for a few years we decided to bring her back.
We covered the 700 miles back home without major incident. But quite slowly.. She then went into my shed for nine years. I kept meaning to get her on the road but something else always seemed more urgent. That's life.
While it it not a collectable fast scoot, I feel quite guilty. So now I have started to get her back to how she should be.
I am an avid rider, but very limited in my mechanical knowledge (odd after 35 years of riding scoots, I know). I think I've just been lucky.
I'm cleaning her from front to back inch by inch and dismantling and cleaning each part as I go. I think this will allow me to remember all the intricate details and identify any major problems.
Wish me luck. I hope you all won't mind if I ask a few questions along the way.
A few pics to follow....

I have to say that the scoot is looking generally better than I expected overall. It has have a healthy spark, pretty clean carb and fuel tank. There is a fair bit of surface rust which is all sortable. But the floor, on one side in particular, is buggered. Can you buy a floor kit for the PK? Not sure if you can. But will be looking for a good welder/body work person soon. When the time comes, if anyone off here is interested, I'm in Kent and can deliver to anywhere southeast. Let me know if you are interested please. imageshack.com/i/f0lYdh5kjimageshack.com/i/id2kvT9Ljimageshack.com/a/img661/4194/2kvT9L.jpg

As you can see from the above vid the pk runs now, but very badly.
I hope you won't mind a couple of questions...
The symptoms are as follows:
It starts well when cold with the choke out. After it has warmed up it also needs a lot of choke to start, even straight after cutting out.
The higher end revs are ok but it won't tick over at all, even for a few seconds. And when the revs drop and you try to increase them again it sounds like loads of air but struggling for fuel.
Also, adjusting the mixer screw either in or out had no effect at all, which I found odd.
Could be unrelated but it raced to high revs a couple of times too required me to turn it off. It was ok after restart.
So my first thought is the idle jet is clogged or damaged. I will order a new one to be sure.
The SHBC 19 19E carb sits quite tight on the manifold when fully tight, but can be moved with the use of force, even when fully tight. Could this also be letting in air? Ig so any ideas please? It has the older style built in tightener not a separate one.
Are the above a good place to start and do you agree the symptoms suggest the above problems?
Told you I was clueless! Thanks for looking..

Flywheel side oilseal has gone by the sounds of it. Noticed I've been getting n volume on YouTube recently but no idea of which end is the problem.

Presume fuel flow is good and the old fuel pipe isn't too long and starving the carb?

Thanks fellas.
Nick, the fuel is flowing fine I think.
Juan, I shall put in the new jet when it arrives, but it is probably what you say,.
I'm ordering a seal now. Final question on this, do you reckon the seal should go in dry or with a sealant?
Thanks.

Gave the underside a clean tonight. As a result removed the stand and started a bit of theraputic rubbing down. It actually made me realise how little I know. So sorry for being a pest with some very obvious questions. But here's another. Paint recommendations for the stand please?

You mean color or technique? Black powdercoat would look nice and be durable.

Silver smooth hammerite if you want to keep it looking original.
