Well! This one looked a bit bubbly here and there but complete, and in need of restoration. As promised after asking a few questions on here I've posted a few pictures of upto now This is what happens when you go prodding around a 1970's Vespa with a screwdriver I ground back the rot and cut the back section out leaving a small amount at the back to keep it from springing apart After watching good old Edd China do it on telly I made a paper template and transferred it onto 2mm mild Steel Which was then cut with a 1mm disc along its length to allow for curving in both directions, so following the Vespa rear end.The hole centres were also taken and noted and the scrap rear end was kept for reference (just in case) It was then over to Ribble Technology to Chemically stip everything and is now nearly ready for bodyshop I've been really pleased with the chemical stripping and not only does it strip the rust but also kills it.The only problem is theres no protection from rusting immediately after stripping so it can rust quick if not treated. Just a few more cosmetic weld repairs now and will have to re-seal the frame due the strip process dissolving any previous sealant which after 38 years will have broken down anyway. I'm planning on taking to the bodyshop this week so will keep updated Brash

lookin good so far , after chemical dipping youve got to be really thorough in getting any residue out of seams an corners or it will give problems later on when painting ,H

Just noticed on your first picture how far round the handlebars are, I hope your headset was not tightened up cos if not that is an MOT failure and I would say that your steering column stops are buggered - usually from some scrote attempting to steal it in the past.

Good spot! The stops were knackered. This was another welding job to build up the stops in the frame. I'll get a picture when poss

Looking good. How much did the stripping cost and how long did to take?

Very good price. I priced up my Garelli scooter with the firm up Dudley area. I forget the name now. They wanted £200 to strip the paint/rust then another £200 for the paint dip. That was a few years back. You really need the paint dip after the acid dip or any unreachable voids will rot from the inside out very quickly.

I was up at Frank Sandersons the other day and they were singing the praises of Phil and team at Ribble tec. I think I'm going to go up early in the new year.
