Been reading and watching the posts regarding painting with interest as it was something that I'd have a go at with the vma1t, never having done one before. Decided for a first attempt and because the frame was by no means perfect to just rattle can it, spoke with someone who'd done his lammy and he said it had taken 19 cans of matt black. Was going to go matt black myself but at the last moment went for a blue gloss, £30 for 12 cans of ebay, 4 and a half cans later

I was surprised how well it covered TBH, not sure what sort of paint it was but the floor of the garage had a covering of blue and I thought bugger I've painted the floor also but what ever it was just swept up.
Used a set of goggles and a mask from the local wilkos, almost as expensive as a couple of cans of paint

I not sure, it square badged, has a T shaped bar welded in to the edge of the frame at the top of the leg, dating certificate as a vma1t 125 Nuova 1966

You can actually get a really good finish using rattle cans. I built a black and green PK once to sell using rattle cans and it looked amazing!

Must have gone over the frame about 8 times, but very lightly each go as my first attempt at painting, just done both sides of the mudguard and door, went over them about same number of times, still using the 5th can of paint

careful when ya flat back as cans/celly dont build very quickly/thickly , an its easy to rub through on curves n bodylines , i'd use all the paint ya got an get a lot of paint/thickness on an polish it up ,will look really nice ,from piccys ya getting good results ,keep on the good work, H

Todat task, how to fit the door catch, there's a plastic washer that I've put on the catch, I presume it sits on the outside of the door to stop scratches. Two further washers one with a rectagular hole that I assume fits first on the inside of the door, but how does it stop on the door

Just about to start installing the wiring and cabling and noticed there a lot of overspray where the upper steering bearing sits, was hoping just to install a new bearing, but I've read where this is an area to be kept paint and mark free, presume because of the bearing.
Do I need to buy the whole upper bearing set or just stick in the bearing

with a dab of thinners or petrol just clean the overspray from bearing track with a rag ,careful you dont mark the paint outside the bearin an stick in a new greased bearin an it will be fine, H

The upper bearing housing can easily be knocked out if you've got a metal bar or tube. Stick it up the steering column hole from underneath and gently tap it out, make sure you catch it rather than falling on your lovely new paint. You could then soak it in some thinners and clean it up nice without the risk of messing up the surrounding area.
I had the same problem on the lower bearing race (forgot to mask it off) and it was a pain in the arse to clean up, but worth the time doing so.

Cheers, tried the thinners on a rag first first but a bit timid regarding the paintwork, knocked out the housing, i'll soak it overnight.

Getting closer now, this time in a week or so, hopefully anyway. Big jobs cabling and wiring to complete, had a free wheel sit-on tonight and went up and down the drive, it don't half seem small after the PK
