personally on the seats ,the ox blood red 1 has best fit for the base , coz i dont like em with a overhang/shadow at the rear. prob be the least comfortable tho,so no good if ya go long range tank . its your scoot watever year it is,if a long range tank means ya ride it more/its more usable, cut the tray , you can get replacements or if cut well re-weld the "original" ,a bigger motor deserves a bigger tank ,or every ride is just from petrol station to station. I like the ancillotti, but I would wouldn't I! Although they're still bloody uncomfortable. I always use my air hawk. Why not go twin tank? I also like the Diablo tank with the front battery tray. That would allow you to remove the frame tray. It's a nice looking s1 that's the ultimate blank canvas. But I also like blank canvases as they are. We're a fickle lot.

Not sure yet on paint. Maybe a light metal flake brilliant white with a splash of colour.

scooterboy nirvanna beckons ,go for it ,green or purple metal/candy flake ,or even update it an go green/purple flip paint, naahhh , i tend to stear clear of white brilliant or old english ,it does make a good background/base but is the hardest colour to blend in any mistakes or repairs/scratches , an i'm not that confident in my painting ability ,an as i sell my resto's to fund the next 1 would be afraid the new owner wud go that tired old route an stick a red/green flag stripe down it . please say wether ive just offended if that was what you were thinking off doing ,ive just got another smallie project an it came with a litre of 1965 "ivory" paint ,italian =old english white basically, an was thinking of livening it with a splash/lines in wedgewood blue ,a light sky-blue , sames as my 66 car an by coincidence ive 2 litres on the shelf ,saves all that indecision i get when choosing colours , Henri

I hear the GT engine kits are a good investment - are you planning to kit it?

Registered without MOT as it's pre 1960. So it can be done. Sent forms off, a few days later v5 arrived. No hass. Now I have to decide on paint and ballsy motor...

That looks smashing Gareth although I also quite liked the distressed look. Have you decided on the motor yet?

Fella that I know runs an unmolested Imola on a S2 and she goes surprising well, forget what exhaust he's using but it is a chamber and not a box / clubman so not much help I know.
Leaving the paint at that or adding pinstriping or the like?

I think there'll be an element of striping in silver and orange and I was having some decals made based on 1958 Corvette 283 fender badges. ( because the S1 is a '58 and the 283cc motor) nothing too over the top.

Cheers Dave, I liked the distress look but my series 2 and my primmy are both rough as fuck so I fancied something clean. I had it done in A matte clear coat over the blue but didn't like it, so the painter, Steve90 on here, kindly re lacquered it shiny. Now I'm not so sure as putting it together will be a tense affair. Engine wise I have 3 to choose from (well 4 including the original standard S1). I have a reliable but not that powerful Imola built on series 2 cases, a newly rebored Rapido 225 with a reed addition on gp200 cases originally in my S2 or the 283 pro porting lump currently residing in the S2. Last year I sold my series 3 without an engine to a mate who put his own lump in it and I recently sold a series 2 project that one of the motors was destined for. So in answer to the question.....no, and I can't decide and it changes by the day. Currently the plan is swap the big motor out of the S2 and put it in the S1 and put the Rapido in the S2 . But that will mean swapping the tank on the S2 because of the carb cut out being on the wrong side but that tank has the fuel gauge sender and battery compartment serving the DC electrics so re plumbing all that will be needed and I don't want to buy another Diablo tank at £240! So the imola might go in the S1 but that will need a tweak and new pipe to get more power out of it but then I don't want a big pipe on it so I need a decent clubman making so it doesn't sap the power...it's a ball ache. But the last few moments typing this has helped as therapy I've got a twin tank conversion you could use, they need a clean up and repainting but there usable, then you could leave the Diablo tank where it is.

Cheers Kev. Depends on whether you go the rallies or not. I do a few and all of the LCGB events that I can. Plus BSSO meet (Not racing but watching). Tend to use the scooters wherever I can.
