I've got a 50 special, that I'm making look like a Primmy. I need pictures of the headlight and chrome rim. Also the adjuster that goes on the bottom of the headset in order to see how it all fits. This might all seem a bit simple, but I've got 2 different restoration books and 2 different manuals none of which show specifically what I'm after. I was given a chrome headlight rim, which has got 2 flat sides, but my headset is round. In both cases I was told these were genuine primmy, and in the case of the rim, I've got absolutely no reason to doubt James (the supplier.)
cheers for any help, UNCLE CHUFTY

My chrome rim has those flats. I'm working away from home until tomorrow but can do pics if still needed then.

Sorry, yeah stainless. I must learn to stop referring to everything 'shiny' as chrome

Appreciate the replies. Under the rim with the flat sides, is the headset round, or do the flat sides follow through? I know I'm gonna come across as a bit dim, but how does the clip fit in the bottom of the headset? Piccys?
cheers boys, these answers are getting me closer all the time.

it slides into the slot half in and half out. with the "U" shaped bit at the front to hold the rim of the lamp glass. the glass bowl has two flat bits sticking up at the top these locate in the inside of the head set.
if thats clear .
im working my nuts off earning my living. However i have all the bits sitting in a box in the garage i will take a few pics in the morning and post them tomorrow night when i am again working my nuts off pictures say so much more than words.

The headset is round but the rim is slightly larger so the flats fit over the top of it. The clip fits into the channel at the bottom of the headlight aperture. The screw points downwards so you can adjust and tighten it. The headlight rim/edge sits in the kink (which is positioned towards the front of the headlight bowl) and you slide the clip forwards/backwards to adjust the beam direction. I had some trouble fitting mine as it was, I assume, cheap repro stuff fitted before I got the scoot. I had to do a bit of work with a file to allow the clip to fit into the channel properly.

The repro clips are very poor fit compared to an original item. Unfortunately the threads get stripped out over time so you end having to replace the clip with a repro item or having to glue a nut into the back of the original (better option)
I thought all the rims were accessories and that originally from the factory they were all plain painted headsets.....

Appreciate all the help. You're quite right about pictures being the most help, and I see what you mean about the rim being a trim rather than specifically functional.

fackin` page expired start again two slots inside the headset for the two tabs on the top of the lamp unit the clip sits half inside and half outside the headset like this then adjust for head liamp aim too tight and you strip the thread on the screw too loose and the lamp will fall out then fit the trim

Sorry to bring an old thread up but I need the same information given to the OP in this thread. Unfortunately the pictures are no more. I have a v90 round headset, the light with the two flaps and also the retaining clip but I cant for the life of me work out how to secure the headlight. In the old south london days I'd have a dozen small frames to copy :-)

Still looking for help if someone can assist. My headlight has the two tabs at the top. Tried the bottom bracket in many different ways but to no avail.
