I wasn't sure how much it was going to rattle so fancied clamping it to something and thought it would also be easier to work on up high - I can't be crawling on the floor at my age!
I ran it again in the evening and set the timing. Strangely it seems to hang on to the revs coming off the throttle once I set the timing (24 btdc). I wonder if now the timing is correct it shows up the carb running lean? Or perhaps my marks are bad and I've made the timing worse.
I've given the borrowed timing lamp back but I think I'll look out for one, it's a handy tool to have.

no who the hell wants to crawl around on the floor, i like the clamps they obviously work.
i have no experiance at all of the kit and setup that you have but i think the timing might be a little to much. all of my motors ran at a couple of degrees less advance than you have, check the plug very carefully for any grey deposits, the warning of death
but i stress i am not familiar with you kit

What are you using as the auxillary fuel tank, the one I got off ebay there more fuel leaks out the tap then goes down the tube. I sort that out and then the tube that fits onto the tap is not wide enough for the carb inlet.

It's something cheap & cheerful but it works a treat. I drilled out a water bottle & sealed up the fuel pipe with silicon, no leaks so far: You need a breathing whole & I also use this as a filling point using an old glue bottle: ] Since my last post I've got hold of a timing gun. A 'Gunson's Xenon Timingstrobe' I can tell you works perfectly well with the wasted spark on a vespatronic, and I got mine off eBay for 6 quid delivered. The motor starts very easily & seems to run well, and I'll check the timing again before putting it in the frame. Getting the PK forks sorted out at the moment, then it's finishing the paint & assembly. I hope to get some fun out of it before summer goes. I must say that this forum really has given me the knowledge and confidence to put this engine together. Whilst I'd consider myself generally handy with tools, I've not done anything as far as this before. Reading & learning from others posts & having somewhere to go with questions is invaluable, so thank you all. In return I hope that my catalogue of events will be useful to others. It's amazing when you think of all the different bits from different manufacturers: MMW head on malossi barrel with GS piston on DRT crank, RMS primaries with a BGM clutch on a DRT tree with vespatronic electrics! I'm just glad it starts. Cheers, George.

Thought it was something like that, day off work laying some slabs and its a bit warm. Grabbed one of the kids sports drink while having 15 mins break, and looking through some posts in the project section, thought that fuel bottle looks familiar Great work on the project, good to have a read at what others are doing

I am trying to sort out a vespatronic that i just installed. Can you tell me what your initial setup was on the stator prior to first start? All I get when trying to start is backfiring.
I am told by SIP (vespatronic, malossi 136, Dellorto 25) that my timing (when running) should be at 25 BTDC but I can't even get it to start yet.
Thanks

you can also undue the back plate from the coils rotate it 180 degs remount with lock tight blue that way the back plate fits into the case milled section perfectly

Great Post George. I have had all the same issues with my BGM Clutch fowling the Sipp clutch cover, I ended up using the packer plate than still had to Dremel the inside of the Sipp Clutch cover. I then fitted tubeless rims and had another issue the rim fowled the outside of the clutch cover. I had 1 mm taken from the lip of the alloy sipp rim. it now clears the cover. I see you have steel rims on just thought I would mention it in case you do fit tubeless. sounds great pal.

Cheers, I do plan to put some 2.10 tubeless rims on, if the wankers at SIP ever get them back in stock.

3.5x10 tires can rub on the swing arms and clutch cover bolts... and even some exhaust header pipes
make sure you have at a least a 1/4 inch of space around the tires in all directions a high speed blow out sucks
